Meteor or Hoax in Latvia?
From The Free Dictionary
It turns out that a large crater in a northern Latvian meadow was the work of pranksters and not a meteorite impact, as had initially been reported. Tele2, a Swedish mobile phone company, took responsibility for the hoax, which it claims was meant to distract attention from Latvia’s economic crisis and give people something "creative and exciting" to focus on instead. Though the company has agreed to reimburse the Baltic nation for the cost of sending military units and scientists to investigate the large crater, government officials say the country will cancel its contract with the company in protest.
