700 Wonderful wonderful Gigs, I'm up to 50 movies
8/10/07
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
700 GIGs and Watching from Xp Computer. V.0111 GIG's GIG's and more GIG's!
I've noticed people are still using self powered drives. Bad idea, it taxes the power supply.
I assume they did not see this tread posted elsewhere.
By the way, I Never had a lip-sync problem until a couple of hours ago. Weeks after the problem was reported by others.
I only needed to turn the power off at the remote and then back On, problem solved.
I checked my 50+ recordings, all is well.
Now I see bin 112 just came out, I have not tried that yet.
Great work Nor-Group, I love this machine!!!!!

700 GIGs and Watching from Xp Computer.
I am 1000 FTA, if you copy or repost this, give me the credit .
I am running the latest BIN as of 8/5/07.
I tried setting the keys using 8282 but those keys were outdated.
Afterwards I tried again, this time I even tried ZERO-ing out ALL Keys and I do mean ALL (ten rows) before changing the keys, that I discovered later, these keys were outdated. Several keygrabber programs out there do NOT work for this model!
That is when I updated to: Coolsat7000_NORW_V0111_20070801. I was very reluctant to update from V109 due to reports of poor lip syncing.
I’m very happy to say, I have NO problems with that, Syncing is fine on both STB and Computer.
THANKS NOR-GROUP, GREAT JOB !!!
I did the impossible. I am using a SEAGATE FREE AGENT PRO external drive from Costco. No, it is not a 500 gig, I have the 700gig. I immediately turned OFF the sleep mode.
Right now I have 7 movies I recorded, one right after another.
I formatted by using the Coolsat 7000, Not anything from my Xp computer or Swiss army knife.
After the 60 seconds it took to format, it was ready to go.
Both the STB and Xp report the drive to have a formatted capacity of 698 gigs after 13.3 hours of movies, I still have 686 gigs free.
Movie: Fast & Furious Tokyo Drift, 1,846 mb, 1hr 44 minutes
Movie: 48 Hours, 1,535 mb, 1hr 36 minutes
Movie: Jarhead, 2,001 mb, 2hr 03 minutes
Movie: Thirty Seconds, over Tokyo 2,161 mb, 2hr 21 minutes
Movie: The Prince of Egypt, 1,451 mb, 1hr 43 minutes
Movie: V for Vendetta, 1,639 mb, 2hr 13 minutes
Movie: Hot to Trot ,1,220 mb, 1hr 31 minutes
Totals 11,853 mb 13.3 hours
This tells me that because of the high speed action, DN sent higher bitrates for Fast & Furious, than it did for Vendetta.
Record rate is under 895mb per hour, for my drive that equals 780 hours of Joy!
A possible problem may be that Coolsat has a limited number of files it can record, if that is the case, my limit would be that of a 500 gig drive or 535 hours.
I did the impossible again! I found a free program for WATCHING and COPYING .TS files from the external drive to my C: drive on my Xp Computer. I now can watch shows from either drive!
As I type this, I'm 1 hour into one of the movies. I have not tested anything else, so I can't say if there are any problems to report.
I’m trying to post screen shots & photos from the recorded show, don’t know if it will make it…
As you will see, I copied critical information, FROM the STB TO the HD for safety.
I know someone who is Testing : VS Ultra, VS Extreme, SV PRV1000
The SV PRV1000 was/is a fantastic machine, all the griping and dealing with hundreds of differant drives, drove this machine out of business after only a few months. Please people, stay with a drive that works.
I don't want to see Coolsat give up (like SV) because they could not please everybody!
My Disclaimer: I've only had a few hours to test this setup!
