Even with manual time setting you'll be recording from 5 minutes minimum up to 3 hrs. 45 min. maximum with 1.08 bin file. To set, press record button twice then press arrow cursor button right next to OK button for more time set, left arrow button to lessen time duration.
Thru EPG recording it depends on the lenght time of a program to set press EPG button scroll to program you want to capture using arrow cursor button up, down, left or right then press OK button once for play twice to record.

I recorded a 2hr 45min PPV ok. It created a 2.8gig file. PPV movies are sent at a higher rate than normal network-tv shows. Since the raw data is saved to disk, I am 'guessing' that the 4 hour max might actually be longer for network TV. But, what network TV has a single program 4hrs or longer? Telethons?
The max length of a program is based on the max size of a FAT32 file which is 4gigs.
An interesting test would be UFC fights. They seem to be extremely clear and are most likely sent at a high data rate. What is the size per hour of those events?
Do you guys understand what I mean when I talk about data rates of different channels? Notice how some channels are always blocky? Notice how a movie on HBO is never as clear as a PPV version seen just a month ago? The compression rate is different on various channels. High data rates means low compression which equals better picture. Same concept as a 128k MP3 does not sounds as clear as a 320k MP3.

Some thoughts and questions on 7000 recording.
I just bought a 7000, loaded Ver 109 and added a 500G external drive. Formatted the drive using the utility on the 7000 and recorded a 13 hour 14 minute movie session without a hitch (no 4 hour limit). Have verified the file is on the drive both by the 7000 info button and by playing back some of it. Have tried to check the file size using my PC and here is where the difficulty starts. The PC, running XP Pro, doesn't see that the drive is formatted and wants to format it only in NTFS (because of the size) yet the 7000 wants FAT32. I must admit that the 7000 only took about 15 seconds to execute the format utility so I wondered if it only formatted 32G and left the rest unformatted. When I run info on the playlist the 7000 shows the whole 500G as being available so I assume the entire 500G has been formatted by the utility . If its FAT32 how does the 7000 do this unless it uses a unique FAT32 format to bypass the 32G limit? Does anyone know if the 32G limit is a Microsoft invention and therefore now a defacto limitation for anyone running Windows? The 7000 utility only took about 15 seconds to format the drive which seems too quick. Am I missing something or do we have an incompatibility between the geniuses at Coolsat and the idiots at Microsoft and we will never be able to use a bigger than 32G partition to transfer files between the 7000 and Windows even though the 7000 will handle bigger partitions.
