no, i mean like on the coolsat 5000 how u press the up arrow on the remote and its already sorted out. all the programs that are playing at that time come up sorted like sports, music, educational, movies.... etc. does this box have that feature? also when im in the epg how do i quick scroll , can i just go down one at a time or is there a button on the remote that i can press to go down quicker??

That's the catergory sort. I love it on the 5000. That's a deal killer for me if it's not there. I use that option a lot when since I'm into sport. It's great when you only want to see games that are on at the moment.

I think it's time someone create a 7000 section as this receiver is gaining momentum.

I don't want to hijack your thread. Can you please reply to my picture comparision thread, since you have both a 5000 and 7000?

does anybody knows if there will be a file that upgrades the coolsat 7000 PVR parental control. I find it very limited when compared with the coolsat 5000.

u have to do it manually for now to sort channel categories, press OK then red button for sort list, next green & enter your password. now you'll see category list sports, cooking, animation etc.

Press the sat button then press it again. Wait 5 seconds and the categories menu will show up on screen.

what are you recording on? If you use the memory stick that came with it you won't get very much recording. Get a 4 gig stick for minimal recording usage or a 200 gig hard drive for your tv storage. Press record or scan ahead in epg. Press ok twice and you will have set the show to record.

Any would be fine, but here's my personal advice.

I would be an external hard drive case separately that has a power switch on the back of it, that uses a computer type power cord. Then buy a hard drive any size you want and put it in. Here's my reason. I like to be able to switch the hard drive of when not in use. Most enclosed external hard drive (if not all) does NOT have a power switch, which make it much hard to turn off your hard drive. Personally, I don't like the hard drive spin 24/7 when not in use.

I agree. Then you can also take your hard drive to your computer and burn movies to dvd.
