View Full Version : Pansat 9000HD
Pansat has anounced the new Pansat 9000HD receiver coming in June.
Not much information on it yet accept that it is dual HD input.
Looks like a NICE UNIT.
Lwood 05-11-2007, 09:22 PM i hope its true iv been waiting 4 a HD reciever to come out.:D
Drockstar 05-11-2007, 10:39 PM Are there any true FTA Hd channels available???

No what it means is the same as Sonicview 8000.
An add on module will be needed.
Legal problems with DN HD signal means all FTA HD Receivers will need add on plug ins to get DN HD Signal.

Setwire, Thanks for the clarification.
How many 8PSK modules have been released by DN? I don't think that there are enough of these to meet the anticipated demand of the new generation of fta HD receivers. Even before all the bugs are worked out on the first Sonicview 8000 units, the prices on 8PSK modules on the famous auction site are already through the roof. Although I would never knowingly buy a clone fta unit, I'd buy a clone 8PSK module at the right price. I hope that quality clone 8PSK modules flood the market to bring the price down.

I would say as the HD FTA Boxes become popular some factory in china will be marketing clone 8psk units.
In fact i would venture to guess someone is working on these units as clones even as I type.
As demand increases prices will continue to increase then the clones will appear and the prices will plummet.
Lets just hope that whoever starts to manufacture the clones make the efort to make a quality product.

Ha this is different .. we are actually looking foward to clones hitting the market (8psk modules only of course). Lets hope they hit the markets soon. I would like to get into HD FTA but this is the only thing stopping me. COME ON clones!!!!!
Here's another thought! We are looking at 8PSK modules on that auction site and they are big $$$. Because there were not that many made, they were only made as an add on unit for the first generation HD receivers. All the new HD receivers have it built in. Is there a way of removing this portion of the receiver or atleast hooking up to this portion of the circuit board? It is cheaper to buy a new receiver now then it is to buy an 8PSK module. Of course if you go this way, you can always go plastic.
Could work for people with dead HD IRDs. Salvageable parts.
Lwood 05-13-2007, 11:40 PM what does the 8psk modules do??
anglil22 05-15-2007, 04:49 PM The pansat site has announced the official release of the 9000. It does seem to be 8psk compliant! I took a look at the Sonicview site and they make not mention fo 8psk. I think this one could be the real deal for DN HD. Let's hope that is the case.

"Compliant" being the key word.
You will have to purchase 8PSK Module and adapter for this unit same as Sonicview or any other FTA HD receiver to be released in order to View DN HD.
The manufactures are not going to risk lawsuits by DN in order to sell their FTA HD Boxes.
"Compliant" and "Ready" are sales word used in all advertising.
Pansat website:
Pansat 9000HD introduced today May 15.
Vassago 05-15-2007, 08:21 PM I think it would be nice to have clarification from someone who actually works with or for pansat on what exactly 8psk compliant actually means. We can speculate all we want, but until someone can provide a link to support the claims, I'll stick with what setwire says. You'll probably still need to buy the module, clone or not.

One question though setwire, how do we really know that there would be something illegal with adding built in 8psk demodulation? If it's a patent issue, how is Genpix able to sell their Skywalker-1 box without being sued?

Probably because they have a signed agreement with DN.
The only reason FTA Boxes actually make it as imports to North America is because when they arrive here they have bins on them that allow FTA Sat viewing only.
Same issue.
Just think of the 8PSK module as a bin file that enables us FTA users to watch encrypted Nagra 2 Signals.
Everyone knows the Manufacturers of FTA Receivers pay coders to release bins just nobody can prove it in court
palsat 05-16-2007, 08:11 AM As a previous Pansat owner, I have one question. How will the Pansat keep time? When they stick with the sucky manually set the time and depend on the crappy clock or when they join what most do now and obtain the time from the bird?
I am shocked no one asked this question regarding PanSat.

You can't think of the 8psk module as a bin file because it doesn't work on it's own. You would still need software to decrypt the nagra 2. All it is capable of doing is demodulating, so I don't see where the crime is being committed or where they would have a case.
As for Genpix having an agreement with DN, highly doubtful. Have you seen the information he talks about on other sites, specifically those dealing with pc related testing? If he had an agreement with them, he wouldn't be helping people decrypt them online, where it can't be traced easily.
I'm very curious to see how this turns out. I don't doubt that SOME manufacturer out there is bound to try and include 8psk modulation without the need of an external module.

As far I know Pansat has this problem only on the 3500 and only with one chipset on that model.
Pansat has been around for a long time. They have always been well supported. I have a Pansat 3500SD and yes the clock has to be reset constantly. But even with that I am still happy with this unit.
Pansat is always trying to improve their products and I am confident that this issue will be fixed with these new models.
jorgeacc 05-20-2007, 10:08 PM i think that pansat will have to say turbo fec 8psk to work with charlie's HD channels... i think that we need the module here too... or maybe not... we need to test it first...
brobrite 05-21-2007, 05:37 AM i hope all this is true
slwt13 05-21-2007, 01:35 PM I've got a 6000 that I'm holding on the while I research the situation. If all we'll need is the 8psk box then we can choose the best receiver for the job. Thats at least till a true stand alone is available.
I was wondering if we use one of the new HD units in combination with the additional hardware would the reception of MPEG4 HD channels be possible. I just haven't seen anyone using this setup so i'm still doubtful.

Well one thing is for sure is the sonicview with the 8psk mod does indeed do "Mpeg4" easily...

dumb1970 06-08-2007, 03:30 PM 8PSK (8 Phase Shift Keying) is a phase modulation algorithm.

Phase modulation is a version of frequency modulation where the phase of the carrier wave is modulated to encode bits of digital information in each phase change.

The "PSK" in 8PSK refers to the use of Phased Shift Keying. Phased Shift Keying is a form of phase modulation which is accomplished by the use of a discrete number of states. 8PSK refers to PSK with 8 states. With half that number of states, you will have QPSK. With twice the number of states as 8PSK, you will have 16PSK.

HDloco 06-11-2007, 12:12 PM Guess I should be thankful I kept that old DN HD box. Me thinks it still has the module installed. :D
HDloco 06-11-2007, 12:23 PM Hard to tell by the pics if there is a place on the back to install the 8PSK module. Maybe in the front?
magnus33 06-11-2007, 10:44 PM Sadly though the hardware may be good the support is about the same as with the other pansats.
First bin has large bugs and many of the same issues other pansats have.
Hope they get it together or the excuse of limited hardware holding the support back is going to go poof.
DirkDi99ler 06-30-2007, 04:05 PM There hasn't been much more said about the 9000HD recently. I'm looking to buy 2 of these units if someone can confirm DN HD... Has anybody received one of these units yet?
BTW, may I suggest creating a section on this board that's specific for the 9000HD model? There are many other Pansat specific sections, just not one for the 9000HD -- and of course move 9000HD related threads to that section...
setwire 06-30-2007, 07:53 PM Hard to tell by the pics if there is a place on the back to install the 8PSK module. Maybe in the front?
No there is no facilities in the Pansat to add 8PSK Module.
So no DN HD with the Pansat 9000HD.

The answer is NO DN HD available with the Pansat 9000HD Receiver, and no facilities to add 8PSK Module which is what you need to receive DN HD Channels.
There will be no board created to discuss the Pansat 9000HD unit here as we all follow rule #6.
Hope that is plain enough for you.
