My CW600s receiver froze up the other day and won't reboot now.
Did manage to get it going once by powering it off and on again until
it froze up again. Have tried the hard reset but that doesn't work.
Powered up all it displays on the front is the " : ", does that mean it
has to be J-tagged to repair it? I have j-tagged a 2700 clone in the
past and got it working, is the procedure for the CW600s similiar?

Did you try holding the front panel button in while switching on from rear and see if it would go into "Boot" mode? If it does, try re-installing software. As long as it can get to Boot mode or --:-- mode, you should be able to fix.
If this can't be done, it won't take a flash or receiver to receiver transfer. I've never seen any software to jtag this chip. If you run across any, post about it as I have a CW600S with Red Light Only (Nothing on display) that won't go into any boot or --:-- mode. Can't take software re-install, can't fix.
Also, if all else fails, I'd try re-installing the software with just the : on the display too. Just in case.

Tried all that with no luck, local dealer claims he can fix it.

A point to remember here is that if the CW600S won't go into either boot mode
or --:-- mode, it won't take any software nor be cloned since this requires putting the box into one of the above modes first. I think I did see a software that listed the conaxent chip as one it could jtag, but the price was around $129 (If I remember correctly), and not even sure it would really work here.
