View Full Version : Magnum Bin Bugs Discussion Thread

This thread is solely to discuss Magnum bin issues, it will not be a bashing thread or to compare other FTA receivers to the Magnum. Any such posts other then what this is intented for will be deleted. Keep it clean and constructive. I decided to start this thread from one of my earlier posts here

C&P

At first there was a new stb - Magnum
Then it was reviewed- Very cool
Then I tried very hard to get a Magnum Forum - It happened, thanks to chip
Then we had lots of interested testers - Great
New bins were realesed with success - Pretty good stuff
Coders continue to try to improve bins with new realeases - Hard work on their part
Now new bins have some bugs to iron out - Negativity is now in the air

My point is that Extremeview, Pansat or any other FTA receiver was purchased without any support attached, so can we not give positive feedback on their accomplishments to date instead of all this negativity. I'm sure the coders are well aware of the bugs and are working hard to try and rectify the problems. Yes freedom of speech is what it is but for Gods sake lets work together not against each other, the results are much better.
To each his own, but I'm really getting tired of reading something negative when all they are trying to do is positive. Shit I couldn't code if my life depended on it but I truly appreciate their efforts and after all isn't this testing?? Testing is fun and lets try and keep this way, and pointing out bugs is great feedback but needs to be done in a constructive way

Magnum Problems on the 41

!) freezing when watching (North), yesterday it was going crazy(unwatchable)
2) freezing in the guide
3) sluggish remote when in the guide
4) Whats up with the directions how to apply the bins ? I saw the reps giving out wrong advice at first about which factory file to use with these last bins. WTF?

NOT exactly happy and having FUN with my Magnum at the moment.

I have continued to use 138, having no problems with Charlie, this post does not include a bug, it could provide an alternative to those having issues.

i use the 138 , my advice to the coders is take your time dont rush to relese the bin until is tested and you think is OK and give the guide how to load it

Try setting the guide display for 3 hours on the northern stuff.
If you go slowly with the remote commands, it is still very useable, and hopefully V142 will take care of remaining issues.

On behalf of Team Reliable, thanks for your patience.

Well said Manteca:beer: I replied in another thread and said that this was a hiccup that Magnum will get past and I was accused of being a Magnum dealer. LOL. I think the problems are minor that will be fixed in the next bin,I am not even worried. My symptoms are the same as others, occasional freezing of video and sluggish remote. A little tweaking and I'm sure things will be just fine.Hoping for great things to come;)

Would be helpful if you all write which bin file you have loaded Ver. 1.38 -1.40 or 1.41 and which provider/s you are reporting results about.

I'm happy with 110w, V 1.41 and having FUN with :hat: my Magnum!

I am running v1.41. On the Northern Bird the only problem I am having is that when I use the EPG, it "stutters" a bit. It doesn't freeze but "stutters". I am having more problems on the two Southern Birds(110,119). I keep geeting "no signal" on some channels or "no service". And on the Southern Birds it frooze up to the point where I had to manually shut it down. The picture quality on the Magnum is SUPERIOR to any reciever I have ever seen(including the two big providers own receivers). The remote is awesome. Everything is great when it comes to this receiver. The only problem is the latest bin. I did find that if I loaded just one of the providers I had no problems at all. Meaning if I only scanned the 91, I had no problems. If I scanned only the 110 and 119, no problems at all. Scanning and running both = problems. Anyone else notice that?
This is just my experiences in the last couple of days.

tried all different settings for epg and bottom line is that it freezes to the point that it needs to be rebooted, the response to remote commands is very slow on both providers, heres hopeing 142 bin works as well as the 138 bin

We have a forum rule number 6 here. so i don't really think it is wise to encourage members here to discuss the provider that we don't discuss...it's already happening in this thread.:o

Jd i was actually speaking more of post #8:)

P.S I don't think there is a way discuss the other sat without breaking the rules..even though one might try to bend words one is still in fact discussing it. Thats the way i see it anyway.:D

I tried 140 and 141...both freeze constantly on my machine. It's no good because I'm using a motorized setup and when it loses my settings, it's a big deal. So, I switched back to 138 for now.

If there is no way - using "code" words or whatever to report which sat or provider one is talking about - then how can one report what is required for coders to know what is happening?

I'm all happy and having FUN watching (only I know), with bin V1.41 and my Magnum:hat:

Gruner has a valid point.

This thread is supposed to be reporting problems with Magnum bin.

Most of the problems with the Magnum bins are with the other provider who at present is using Map calls that are obviously causing the majority of the problems for the Magnum coders.

So if we can not refer to specifics here in some kind of code words then this thread will become useless and should just be closed.

And much the same would be the case with most other threads.

Might be a valid point, but as the rules state..There are plenty of places for this but not here.

I've seen similar problems while running multiple providers. And I've seen this issue even with the 138 bin.

Can't report problems precise if we can't say or hint which provider/s the problems are with!:hat:

That is a problem and unfortunately we can't circumvent it, so let's leave it at that and go on. We all know what and who we are talking about!

Gruner,

Have you heard when 142 is to be released? There were some bold statements made yesterday about it! I really don't care when it does come out, but making statements about it and then not following up with them creates another problem. I know you did not make the statement, I'm just questioning if you have heard anything else.

Sorry, I never saw it myself - honest - it was not posted.
I heard it was just in the shout box - so it's gone!
Don't know when it will be out and what it will fix.
Personally for myself I'm in no rush - I'm fine with what I have for now.

V142 was released to Beta testers Friday night, but had a couple of freezes on the north pole stations over the course of 24 hours, so they worked around the clock to nail it down.

Where they are at now, I dunno, and I'm not guessing or making any premature statements again.

Have a great night, DSSTesters!
