I hear all this talk about the coolsat 8000 on this site and a few others but has anyone actually test this receiver out yet? is it worth $450?

I asked the same question few weeks ago !!! Details are very sketchy !!... I see no answers here !!

Probably has something to do with the support issue.

The place I bought my coolsat 5000 from used to have the 8000HD listed as "coming soon". Now they have taken it off their site completely. Not a good sign.

I am definitely interested in this product, hopefully more info is released on it soon.

Are there any other HD FTA receivers out there yet?

Yes, you are correct!

Standard Definition channels come in just fine. The picture is excellent.
The product launch was/is less than excellent. The software works but has lots of issues. The epg is awful. My machine resorts to transponder sort whenever it is shut down. There is no renumbering for providers. Most viewing is a search and hope issue. At least its auto rolling now.
I hope the software comes up to date before the other makers hit the market.

[ Just got nimiq 2 working today. and the HD is very clear. some channels are only 720 i and some are 1080 i But the picture is very clear and hard to tell the difference from 720 to 1080. I only hope coolsat comes out with a modulator to pick up dish 129 in hd.

I personaly love the tv guide. I use with both a Bsnq Pe7700 projector & a
35" crt tv. The over the air local hdtv is awsome as are the hd channels off
nimiq 2 at 82deg. I will be well satisfied if the freezing does not become worse.

Recieves all sats
HDTV only on 82
HD & SD work on hdmi, svhs, component, & composit out puts
Does over the air HD
Does not do over the air analog:D

Most sat companies crunch their HD content as much as possible hoping that the average user won't know any better (most don't).
ATSC on the other hand is relatively unrestricted so is much closer to HD (read near-RAW). If you live in an ATSC-blanketed area you are in for a treat.

8000 is working great: perfect picture, very fast channel swich, epg ok.
drowbacks: it doesn't have an output for TV (75 ohmi) which I have used on 4000 and 5000 to send the signal upstairs in my bedroom.
It can't be used on both: the motor and in switch: you have to use either a motor or a switch.
I've used to use both: the motor and the switch (for 2 fixed dishes) with 4000 and 5000 and I've had more that 1500 channels at once.
Now, I'm using it only with the motor SMR1224 (180 degrees on horizontal) and a small actuator (for vertical movement) for fine tunning.
What else are you interested to know about 8000?

i understand the cs8000 is not mpeg4 compatable and that the 129 charlie hd sat is mpeg4. so to get hd one would have to look at the 82 b3v sat. any truth to this.

im up and running very happy........ so far

WHY?
8000HD is MPEG-4 capable. (see technical details anywhere)
129 Echostar5 is MPEG-4, Nagravision 2 for majority of HD channels (very few MPEG-2)

WHY is not picking up HD channels?
What is purpose of spendig roghly $400.00 for receiver if you can not watch HD channels???

Very Happy with Coolsat 8000. The picture quality is very good.
Picking-up HD channels no problem as well as the standard channels.
Don't understand these so called testers that say the 8000 does not receive HD.
Wake up buddy!!! All the information is available. All you have to do is read!

Coolsat 8000 HD without USB will be no good once B3V switches to mpeg4.

There are rumors of a rs232 adapter for the soon-to-be-defunct Coolsat 8000HD non-usb, but I wouldn't bet on it.

The Coolsat 8000HD that people are buying now seems to be a rushed product by Coolsat to maintain marketshare and keep its image up as an FTA leader. But rushing a product does have its consequences...and we will soon see.

I'll start by saying that we are not supposed to mention that provider or sat by name. And the post should be edited. But here is my opinion of them.

If you are refering to freezing on HD channels on that satellite. It may not be your receiver. I had a legal receiver (6100) with subscription. And the HD channels were awful (freezing). Especially CTV would freeze constantly. So much infact that is the reason I got into FTA to begin with. I was so unimpressed with their service that I would rather take chance on bins not working, then to pay them for CRAP. If DN were available in Canada I would gladly pay them for HD service. But of course we all know that is not going to happen.

Goto FTA File Archives at the end of the Forum main page.

Look up the start-up package.

You should load the clear.sw before loading the latest bin.

honestly i was having an issue getting the csupgrade progam to work. If i could just scan now id be happy. I had 3 computers torn down and in my living room because of it.

cleared fine and was able to reload, but when i scan im not getting anything, what other things can i check, hardware? I have a 90% on my bird .?

Which sats are you aiming. Are you getting any signals? What is your set-up? LNB? Dish? Switches? Motor?
