There has not been to much converstation about the new 8000 hd. I was just see if there is any input on the new box. I have heard rumors about it only working on the other provider and will not work on d**h?

You can use the unit for Dish, it is just you aren't likely to find many, if any, HD channels to decode. You might find a couple on 129. Check Lyngsat and look for HD channels that don't specify 8PSK. DN went to MPEG4 to handle higher data rates in the same spectrum. They also went to 8PSK modulation for the same reason.

No big rush to be the first to test a new, expensive and potentially frustratingly limited technology. I was just wondering if there was something out there I missed, as "HD" doesn't work too well as a search term.

Already thinking about getting another box, though. With the new TV coming, Momma gets the old TV in her room and she's gonna need to do a little testing herself upstairs, right? :cool:

8psk vs qpsk is hardware based differences in the tuner. its nothing at all todo with software. if it doesnt support 8psk now, it never will.

So this 8000 hd wont pick up the regular stuff? HD only?

The new 8000HD will supposedly be out this week, before running out and buying this unit, not cheap $429. Consider this.

The unit spec on reception is:

"Enable to decode QPSK satellite and ATSC terrestrial transmissions Mpeg2 and Mpeg4"

NOTE: A primary sat for Charlie HD is Echo 5 @ 128.8 W, their video encryption which needs to be decoded is 8PSK.

The differences between the two and decoding ability are hardware based, as such do not buy this unit expecting to receive Charlie.

the guy i ordered from said there was a problem and they have not shipped any units out from coolsat in korea. he also said if anybody says they have these units ready for shipping they are liers. they are trying to get these issues corrected b4 they ship out. it will b interesting to see what if anything they are doing to address the 8spk issue. the guy that i ordered from said no body has any of these units except test models that they sent to their retailers. we will see what happens this week but i don't expect to get one of these units until maybe feb.

There was a limited supply shipped this month..my dealer had 3.. i called him today and he told me next shipment would be early February. And that first shipment could well have been test units or demos because according to the specks these units should have a USB port, the few guys that got them, well not one had a USB port..Let us know goldmine when you get yours and what it's equipped with.

I would like to know myself, As with the other coolsat models..the card reader is an option (1 thing that pisses me off) so we will have to see once they are shipped in numbers and then someone can open one up and see if in fact that, well the reader from a 5000 will fit..we will just have to wait and see for now.:D

Hey Woofy....I would be interested on hearing more about this box myself , but like posted, I don't want to pay that kind of money for that much bs....and if it won't work for DN , then not much good for us here in paradise...

i asked the same question on another site and here is what one guy said that has a demo 8000



I have a demo box and no. The bracket is different than what's needed on the 8000 and the plug on the main board is smaller than the 4000,5000,&6000. The card slot is located in the middle of the unit on the 8000 demo thats why i am stating the mounting bracket will be different. Now, if the boxes that are being shipped are different than the demo i have, who knows?

this is what my dealer told me the delay was. he said they were installing an add on that an external 8PSK can be added to get d*sh HD channels. he also said that he should have them by 1 28 2007. i will let you know when i get mine.

As for using to pick up local HD, any tv equipped with a HD tuner can do so using a $20 antenna.

But if your looking for espn and other sports and paid stuff we will just have to wait and see if this will get sat 129 with all the good hd channels. Hope so !

I need some help understanding.

I got mine this week and I'm disappointed. Those who have waited are wiser than I. The poor software development is a complete surprise to me - very basic features were overlooked or ignored and render the machine incapable of basic testing. As we speak, my cs4000 is more capable. I have to agree. I have paid big bucks for a great mpeg2 receiver. The regular stuff comes in fine. The rest of the software is going through some rough times right now. Motor control is hit and miss. Switching issues are all over the place.
Auto roll is not working. Very disappointed in this machine's support. I understand that the other provider is implementing new countermeasures that could not have been foreseen, but the hardware should be 100% from day one.

Yes the Coolsat 8000HD does receive all standard definition channels. On both providers. What they are refering to on this forum is what type of HDTV signals it is also capable of receiving.

You are correct. The sat @ 8_W is only QPSK. The Coolsat 8000HD is capable of receiving that one.
