how can i install the microsoft genuine advantage toll

It means you dont have the latest updates installed. "Windows Genuine Advantage" will show up as an update if you have a message on your systray that says "you have updates ready to install or download"

i have same problem it says wga not active.so i added step 2 files to system32 folder and i can now download updates no problem,but it will only install critical security ones fails to install driver or software updates.any one have a clue how to get this thing rolling?

Don’t know if this is warez or a crack but I downloaded every program from micro.soft with this Windows Fix.

well i just tried both of these- i guess i have an activation problem and not a WGA problem- i installed windows from a disc- the compaq computer has the COA on it but i cant activate says product key invalid- checked it over 20 times i typed it correct- is it the wrong version of windows for the key? still says i have 30 days to activate any way around this?

I'd say NOPE! I just went through the same thing trying to reload the system recovery disk supplied with my computer 13 times last nite, into early this morning. I was reading and typing verbatim the numbers of of the COA. I finally called the Microsoft number listed under the option of doing it telephonically. The gal on the other end stopped just short of accusing me of being a pirate. I offered to take digital pics of the COA & the software, but she refused my offer, stating my only option was to go out and buy a "legal" copy. HUH??? Anyway, a few posts back, or maybe in the VIP section is a post of XP Pro w SP2 and all updates thru Nov 06. I'd suggest trying that. I'm gonna probably have to. :yes:

why even try to do it legitimately? they make it so difficult when you have the key right on the computer it should work- anyhow i got it figured out- i borrowed a friends upgrade disc- just pisses me off how difficult they make it- might as well use pirated versions its easier than trying to be legit- iggy
