We are currently looking at new features, such as a download guide button, in the menu.
What else would you Magnum owners like to see?
Let me know and we will see about adding them over time :)

Sager,

It's hard to add to perfection!!! Just kidding, but close! Anything in the works for flashing without disconnecting?

What do you mean?
I leave my serial cable connected all the time.
Take a lappy over to the tv, connect the cable, send the file and bam its done :)

I was looking at the Magnum with interest after offering advice to other members, and realized that the software was only upgradable with a cable...

Maybe I am spoiled with my Pansat3500, but I would suggest that future models incorporate either an SD card or USB "finger-drive"... that has *GOT* to be a major benefit uses instead of using a cable.

I here you about the SD Card or USB finger drive.for upgrading.
My thoughts on this is do have an SD driver that can be adapted to plug into the RS232 DB9 Port lready on the Magnum and load files that way.
Simple enough device to make.
Just need bin file that will enable that feature.
Something the coders may want to look at.
Upgrade the present Magnum XV 3300 with such a device and I would love my Magnum Forever.
Second suggesstion is to use the Card Reader already installed to Upgrade the bin file.
Just a little something to think about.

I was very close to ordering a Magnum until I noticed that it did not have a usb port like the Viewsat Ultra. Since I have heard nothing but praise for the Magnum, I decided to wait to see if they will release one shortly.

Just got my xv3300 a week now, Great system. On the Guide, would like to see the events auto-populate rather than manually adding them. I.E: Movies- would list all current movie events, Sports - would list all sports events, etc.. Other than that the Guide is Supreme.

Some sort of audio tone on the remote so when I get home to where my 3 children have been playing all day I can push a button on my STB and find my damn remote (like I do to find my cordless phone handset every day).

I am kidding with you here and I do realize this would likely entail creating an entirely new remote, but with the next generation of the Extremeview, Why not consider this? I personally have a real problem with finding my remote some days! (usually when AR is down, keys have changed and the Leaf game starts in 5 min. LOL).

I have had my magnum for a couple of months now. I am very impressed with how crisp the picture is, its overall performance and the support . There is one little change that would make manually entering keys a little better. I would like to be able to enter the keys in using only the number pad on the remote.

Right now you can enter some key's in like that but if you have 2 consecutive like 2 and B you have to move down to the arrow to move the cursor over to enter the B in. So I would just like arrow buttons on the remote in the key editor.

I would also like to say that I am really impressed with the hard work and dedication of The Extreme Team it makes me confident that my magnum will last .

Thanks again, MP

It would be a real step forward if the Extremeviev support group could populate the favorites with default dish/other groups instead of leaving the empty favorites screen to be operator filled in one channel at a time.

For example on the Coolsat the Up Ch button gives access to pages of Movies,Specials/series, Sports, News/Business and the like.Nothing like that on the ExtremeView that I could locate.

Instead of using the slow "on screen keyboard" to write new keys, use remote direct for numbers and for letters use as you do with a telephone handset key/number pad:

For A; press #2 two times. For B; press #2 four times. For C; press #2 six times.

For D; press #3 two times. For E; press #3 four times. For F; press #3 six times.

Thanks Crashoverload for the tip!

USB to Serial
Wireless Adaptor

Connecting your computer with your satellite receiver is simple and easy with the ExtremeView Serial Wireless Cable modules. Our Serial Wireless Cable module enables you to load files like you do with your serial cable on ANY Satellite Receiver that has a serial RS232 and a computer with a USB port - WIRELESSLY. By using our Serial Wireless Cable modules you eliminate the need to move your computer to your receiver or move your receiver to your computer.

The ExtremeView Serial Wireless Cable does not require any software to establish a Bluetooth connection. There is also no need to change any software on the connected devices. IT IS A TRUE PLUG AND PLAY DEVICE. You just plug Serial Bluetooth adaptor into your satellite receiver and plug the USB adaptor into computer and you are connected to the satellite receiver and are ready to load. The ExtremeView serial is a true "cable replacement" product.

The Serial Wireless Cable modules conform to the industrial standard EIA-232-E for serial data communication and act as transparent pass through devices, i.e. as a RS-232 cable without wires. It provides complete emulation of all RS-232 signals.

Requirements
• Any Windows operating system
• Linux, OpenBSD, freeBSD
• Mac OS 8, 9, 10 and later

Manteca,

I ordered one of those. Pretty pricey at a little less than $90.00 shipped. Will let you know how it works out. It would still be nice if some kind of solution utilizing the card reader and card would come about, but for now this will be a good solution and I will be able to use on all my boxes. Will review it as soon as I get it.

When you review it let us know what kind of range this wireless solution has.

Extremeview Specs say 50 feet,
Bluetooth equivalent states 300 feet.

Would like to know for my application.

I have computer on one floor with cement floor between my Magnum and the computer.
would be nice to know if it will work with this type of configuration.

My SV-1000 does that, I figured that it was standard on all receivers. The Magnum doesn't? That's really...disappointing. Really.

The feature I'd most like to see would be LAN connectivity of some sort...not sure what the usage of this would be, but it seems like it'd be a neat feature.

I'm waiting for Raiders review on the wireless adaptor as well.
My read on the situation at this point is Magnum introduced this wireless unit with great fanfare but unfortunately had none in stock.
I have not seen a review for this accessory on any sites.
I would think that with none of these units were on hand and anyone that ordered one may receive them somewhere after the end of January if they are lucky.
Seems the only one available when they offered them For Sale was the one Magnum took a picture of and posted on their various dealer sites
Hope Raider posts when he receives the one he ordered as I would like to proven right or wrong on my read on this situation.
I may order one in the future but I am not at present interested in investing a $100 on something that is not quite available yet, and has not been reviewed by anyone, anywhere.

Wireless devices have come in and orders will be filled. This is what I was told. I guess they had a part shortage. Go firgure... I guess part shortages this time of year is expected since everyone has been off.

Luckly there is no need to load your magnums LOL...

This group has been solid!!! Anyone how has purchased a wireless adaptor will get one...

Extreme View Inc. has only been honest and has taken care of it end users.. NO ONE IS GETTING SCREWED... Maybe getting anxious but that is all...

Not concerned with anyone getting screwed, obviously if you ordered and paid for a unit it will eventually be shipped.
My concern is they were supposedly available 3 weeks ago when initially advertised For Sale and it would appear in 3 weeks none have been either shipped or received by anyone that preordered them.
Only conclusion that one could come to is there is none availalble at present and most likely none were available at the time they were advertised 3 weeks ago.
Anyone that ordered one of these units 3 weeks ago and have received one please chime in and prove my assumptions wrong.

The only real beef I have so far with the EV is that the EPG shows a 2 hour span giving four 30-minute blocks. There isn't enough room in these blocks to display much info, so sometimes I'll see programs called "The" unless I highlight it to see the full name, but not practical when you're trying to channel scan..

I wish it could be set to display 1 hour instead, using two 30-minute blocks.

brodiem
01-15-2007, 09:12 AM
One other EPG annoyance I have..

When using Pgup/Pgdn buttons in the EPG it causes the audio/video to struggle and it starts getting choppy. Surely w/ a 200mhz proc and the memory in the EV it can't be a hardware limitation, especially when comparing it to similar spec'd VS FTAs. Maybe the code is still not efficient. I know the bin is larger than most FTAs, possibly because of the smartcard support, and if that is the case maybe there should be two bins, one that removes the smartcard support if it'll make the software faster.

Compressed firmware like the mediastar mi-3
The firmware is compressed and loads in 3 minutes,
then decompresses in ram a lot faster than the serial loading process.

this magnum is a very clean looking unit and well put together
comparing with the viewsat it is no comparison.......
viewsat has it beat hands down .........
the bin file 140 for the magnum wasnt very good and some people infact
say not to use this file .......i did and didnt like it
i then tried the bin file 141 which was the latest one
it was stated to do a factory default of the unit and then do a factory bin to the receiver before loading the 141 file i dids this and still dont get many channels on the dish side ...........did as instructed........
1) said that they speaded it up on the channel change (wrong pansat 2500a is faster on the channel change ) not even talking about the viewsat (which at this time lots faster than the magnum) ..........
2)fixed freezing on the remote (wrong)
3)also you cant hold the up or down key down and scan the menu you have to hit it each time you want to change it .....
4) minute freezing still on the unit with picture......
i think that if i was magnum that i would fix the current problems instead
of worrying about what to install next that wont work ..........
........................this is the slowest loading unit used today i beleive...........................the remote is user friendly only because you can pick this remote up at walley world (universal) not confortable in hand at all ........................to those interested in the magnum i think that i would consider getting a viewsat first so i could compare and you will see the difference very quickly ......................i own two of each and several pansats and also the coolsats .......magnum says that they are the worlds nr 1 receiver for fta .......they might make the top 10 maybe not yet needs lots of work........................................only honest opinion

There latest bins are not the best.
I really hate to see what happens to the Magnum when DN implements the Map 57 call.

my bigest problem is i only get about 76 channels on like 119 and 123 on 110
i dont get my western channel and outdoor channel ...........on my viewsat i am getting all the channels .......

At first there was a new stb - Magnum
Then it was reviewed- Very cool
Then I tried very hard to get a Magnum Forum - it happened
Then we had lots of interested testers - great
New bins were realesed with success - pretty good stuff
Coders continue to try to improve bins with new realeases - Hard work on their part
Now new bins have some bugs to iron out - Negativity is now in the air

My point is that Extremeview, Pansat or any other FTA receiver was purchased without any support attached, so can we not give positive feedback on their accomplishments to date instead of all this negativity. I'm sure the coders are well aware of the bugs and are working hard to try and rectify the problems. Yes freedom of speech is what it is but for Gods sake lets work together not against each other, the results are much better.
To each his own, but I'm really getting tired of reading something negative when all they are trying to do is positive. Shit I couldn't code if my life depended on it but I truly appreciate their efforts and after all isn't this testing?? Testing is fun and lets try and keep this way, and pointing out bugs is great feedback but needs to be done in a constructive way. Sorry to rant but that's my feelings.........

If we talk about improvments for the NEW MAGNUM , I like to see this :

1 front pannel USB port
2 10 Mb. FLASH memory
