I bought an AVR 8, Jtag, and and 25 pin cable.
I have a 2710 ird with a married/subbed 288-02 ROM3 card

After repeted efforts to use Jeepers to read/flash the card I gave up. I get the "AVR program not recognized, could not read settings." error.

So I moved onto eepeditar4.1.exe. I can read/right no problem. I followed the "Eepedit How-To" at http://www.dsstester.com/_article_dish_eep_howto.asp.

I believe I set everything up right: Everything set for Dish, Married-Sub, IRD # and CAM ID set, Keys updated fine, Public Key set to "key 0" with the number from updated keys, timezone set, and zip set to "00000"

I left the 'Advanced Settings' alone: 0000-7fff (00 00 00 00 00 00 00 7F 7F 7F 7F 7F 7F 7F 7F)

I clicked on "Write Autoroll" and everything went fine except after right I get a windows "illegal operation" error. I read the avr and all the data looks fine.

In the mean time my cam has been on channel 101. (100 dosen't exist anymore).

I pulled the cam, poped it in the AVR and put the avr in the IRD.

The AVR8 has 2 switches: PR-REG<->8MHz and Auto-Roll
The only setting that does not get a "Smart card inserted incorectly" error is with S1 on PR-REG and (I believe) Auto-Roll on.

With the AVR (w/cam) in the IRD I get a full schedual(no red) and no black-out, but can only see the Dish channels. No picture, no sound on any other channels.

I put the cam back in the IRD alone and everthing is back to normal. Except I'm getting a nag screen (phone line) every now and then.

What's with jeepers? I suspect the Mar 15 ECM. I guess that if I could get jeepers working I could use the latest 'pfg' file.

Can anyone help with this? I have 2 friends waiting to see if I get this working before they take the plung and buy their own.

BTW: I never got the jtag working.

Thanks for any help.

I forgot a few other questions:

Should the Cam be in the AVR at any time when it is pluged into the computer?

Will the switch settings effect jeepers working to r/w to the AVR?

And, is there any way to read the box keys from the cam using the AVR?

Thanks, again.

I solved my problem. I noticed, on another site, that the 'Public Key' in use now is Key 1.

I re-Flashed the AVR, and all the channels are on now.

One problem: I get a 'broken' signal every now and then. Like when a heavy storm comes through. About every 30 min.

I think I mentioned that I used eepeditor4.1.exe

Is this the latest version with auto-roll?

Thanks.

man! you solved your problem before I even finished reading the posts LOL!
Yes, you have the current version. Keys will rpobably not roll though.

Also, you did apply the blocker on the card (if not it wouldn't be working now), and yes, the flicker are blocky images are fairly common.

I also get occasional "You Smart Card is Not Authorized" messages that wil flash up for about 15 seconds, but they always go away if I just wait patiently.

Also, be sure you do get a clean EEPROM backup from your IRD as you will need to restore the firmware at some point when Charlie hits another TSOP ECM. IRS locks and TSOP locks seem useless and I haven't used my lock since I installed it :-(

Thanks for the reply!

I think I know what was wrong with the Jtag. It's one of the push-button types. When I put it in, I can't see what I'm doing. I very helpful how-to at a commercial site shows how to use their Jtag on a 2700.

I don't want to make my own just yet anyway, so I think I'll just buy on of theirs. I don't have the URL on hand (I think I forgot to bookmark it)

I really don't know anything about Blocking software, or locks, yet. All I used was 'eepeditar4.1.exe'. That's it. I couldn't do anything to the IRD with Jtag. So nothing was changed there.

I think I pretty lucky in one way, but stupid in an
other.

I bought this IRD last year as a second unit to use with my Tivo. It was used and I bought it from a 'guy' at a HAM-fest in Maryland. He had a stack of IRDs and a fist of cams. The IRD had a piece of paber on the back that I think was the box keys. I didn't know what it was and through it away. :-(

I suspect someone was testing with this IRD before I got it.

I'm going to try to read the IRD again. and back it up befor I get hit.

Thanks again.
