I got a similar email. I noticed that the F2ATV site is not loading..
Another website was mentioned in the message. I don't know if this is a scam or not. I don't want to open up a site that is a "scam".... or some set-up by whoever.

not sure what was compromised either, but one of the site moderators is urging everyone to change their account's password asap.

Changing the password doesn't sound good either. Your original password that you type in will be read by the site owner. If it is a scam, that's they way they get your password. I bet you that you can enter any password as the original password and it will work. Then you'll know it's a scam.

The thing to do is just stay away. It seems the only thing that was safe was the passwords because that was the only thing consistantly encrypted. This is a C&P from FTAgal.com

Important note to the mods and admin at f2atv! I am reading about this on your site right now and I am just disgusted by the way you are trying to cover this up! I will tell you this... the addresses that received this email were ONLY registered at YOUR site. The addys were not at any other website or business! The information came from YOUR site period! DO NOT try to cover up. It will not do justice to the community to lie to them about this. and Darlok.... if you haven't gotten one to the email you use there.... you WILL! If I were you.. I would be worried about just how much information they already have....!!!!!!! BlindScan... don't tell the peeps you don't know how they got the info from the database... just tell them they did, and friggin start over! Why take chances with everyones personal info!!! Start from scratch or something... whatever. It is worth the time to save and salvage your members. They will come back.

Change our passwords??? come on.... that is the only thing that remains encrypted when the database is in xml or csv. You need to do much more than tell them to change passwords!!!!!!!! Go ahead... download your members and see for yourself... the passwords are encrypted! If they got the database or part of it as you said... worry about the peeps that asked those dumb questions about the cs and etc. They are the ones that should be worried! The downloads and the download history... those are worries... NOT PASSWORDS!

e-mails from this offshore joint a couple of weeks ago from some dude or dudette by the name of napsterduke. also saying that the al***r site was down and would not be back, which is a crock for starters. also asking me to join and asking for a referal as they wanted to win some contest for a free receiver. not sure what this is all supposed to mean but i just deleted this crap and have not heard from them since.

hey
only random users getting email? i have been registerd on the site for a while and haven't received a email from them or anyone pertaining to that site.

Drockstar, was that the entire email? Was there more as in post #5 of this thread by halfbreed? If the email contained a link to another website I would say that either:
1. The website contains malicious code, or
2. This is just someone's (a Korean by the looks of the pathetic grammer) lame ass attempt at marketing that website.
My sincere guess would be the latter. I've seen this before. That kind of dishonest and in my oppinion unethical marketing is common.
Either way you have to wonder how your email was retrieved. That would be reason enough to stay away from both f2atv and the website for which the link was for.

F2ATV is back up and asking everyone to change their passwords. It was a known hacker/spammer named Collin who got in and sent the message out to everyone. If you didn't ge a message you probably had unclicked the "receive email from admins" when you signed up.

I would definatley not go to this guy's site because it almost surely contains malicious code to try and fish information off of your computer.

Who cares if they have our email or account information? Since when is it illegal to visit a website and read?

I wouldn't go back there and change the password either. What for? The site is busted so why would we need an account? Changing the password could be a lure from the site owner instructed by whoever busted them to get us and record whatever information.

this email crap is gettin old...
you can hack vbulletin by a couple of ways to gain access to admin passwords.. those that know, know...

I guess I'm getting old, as I remember when this happened ALL THE TIME!,, almost every DSS site got hacked and their password taken... there was someone that used to do it,, then he'd sell the email lists,,, there were at least 5 massive email lists floatin around... and adam bet that there is lackman of them now...

I went to f2atv - from another computer- (did not sign in) just as a guest from computer in the mall....lol and i did not like how they are not taking responsibility for there action for what happend.... they are not accecpting any kind of responsibility at all. this is dishonarable

I do not plan on ever visiting this site again, they have lost trustability with safekeeping of privacy with accounts.

The problem has been discussed on their own site. Here's a simulated link:

I don't know if live links are permitted so I substituted xx in the hypertext portion of the address. Just replace and read.

... signed in under proxy

Skunk is giving good advice. The first basic step towards improving one's anonymity on the net is to use a proxy service.

But beware. Not all proxies are created equal. Some happily blab the originating IP in their header information. It all depends on how the server providing the proxy connection is configured ... and one that is configured for high anonymity today can be reconfigured to rat you out tomorrow.

It's also a great idea to use a more secure browser when visiting questionable sites, turn off scripting, auto install, images, block all cookies except session cookies being returned to the originating site ... also, never ever reuse user names and/or passwords between sites. You are making things way to easy if your password at a web site is the same as the password for the web mail account you used to register at the web site!

...but no matter what anybody tries to tell you, there is no such thing as air-tight anonymity on the net.

I wasn't going to post any more of these, but this one stated that it had a cardless fix for your fta receiver. Take it for what it's worth. As for myself, i'm not going to take it at all. I think they are trying to put the HURT on someone myself.

Dear member,

The latest cardless fix for your fta satellite receiver has been released. You can get it at:

www. offshorefta .info (Take away spacing and type into address bar)

The above is very safe and secure helmsman and is also fully offshore. I look forward to seeing you there mimi.

Yours always,

Rodrick Knowles
