View Full Version : Killer Gill: Lived fast, died young

chip

WASHINGTON: A young man of Sikh origin, who liked to play internet games about massacres, went on a shooting spree at a Montreal college cafetaria on Wednesday, killing one and injuring 19 before he was shot dead by the police.

The shooting brought chaos and fear to the core of Canada’s second-largest city as major thoroughfares were closed, office towers were evacuated and the subway service was disrupted. The 25-year-old clean shaven man, whose name was given as Kimveer Gill, reportedly hosted a blog at Vampirefreaks.com, described as a website for Gothic industrial culture.

In a blog, he had fittingly written his own epitaph: "Lived fast, died young. Left a mangled corpse."

Gill's web handle, or the name by which he was known to other users of the website, was Fatality666. He also wrote: "His name is Trench. You will come to know him as the Angel of Death."

In one posting, he said his "objective was to live this year". But in another, when asked, "How do you want to die?" Gill replied, "Like Romeo and Juliet or in a hail of gunfire."

He said he liked to play Super Columbine Massacre, an Internet-based computer game that simulated the April 20, 1999, shootings at the Colorado high school where two students wearing trench coats killed 13 people before committing suicide.

The blog also reveals that Gill was a fan of the video game series Postal, a controversial and violent programme in which players take on the role of a killer who goes on a murderous rampage through a small town.

WASHINGTON: A young man of Sikh origin.......

While I think this is an absolute incomprehensibly senseless attack, I do take offense to this typical American media ploy to start off their paragraph as it does above. You would never see, "A young man of Dutch origin or English origin or Spanish origin.."

Continually placing these North American minorities into this catagory of murderers is just as stupid as what this asshole has done.

Well, up here we are so multicultured that I suspect it's not used as an identifier as such to provide rascism.
There are some freaks, and there are some troubled people out there.
Who this guy was we will not know, but I suspect he needed help.

Luckily, if one can say that, he only killed one while injuring something like 19.
I am not in Montreal, but I feel for the poeple there. I hope it never happens here in Toronto, though unfortunatley we seem to have enough people killed by stray fire and gang violence.

The people that do this are failed joiners. Half are seeking "Suicide by cop," half actually believe they are going to live happily ever after as a hero. Those that survive go on to develop full blown mental illness. Although considering the later category, it doesn't seem there is actually much to develop; perhaps develop here is used to mean surface, or lose the ability to pass as sane.

I am sorry but what do gun laws have to do with anything? Aren't we getting a little side tracked here? Guns can be acquired by anyone...face it.

He applied for a firearms licence and he got it...just like a million other people. It really boils down to why the guns should be allowed to civilians in the first place, it beats me. Any takers?

Did U read that he had an FAC ?
He had a restricted or prohibited weapon. No possesable in Canada legally anyways.

Gun control or not, the outcome would be the same. I could easily drive from the US thru Canada customs with a trunk full of guns and explosives no questions asked.

The problem is not gun control !

I think somebody missed my point.

Gun control laws are a fallacy. The grossly restrictive gun laws imposed upon Canadian citizens don't do a damn thing except punish law abiding Canadians. They sure didn't stop Mr. Wacky there did they? Every time something like this happens the left wingers go nuts and cry out for more gun laws. It's not the guns stupid...it's the criminals. Real enforcement of existing laws go a lot farther than any other method. Plus you can stop a whack-job from doing something stupid. You can't legislate irrational and crazy people.

Perhaps if Canada were more enlightened a CCW holder there might have tapped this clown before he did any real damage.

Are you serious? You actually trust the government to protect you from criminals? Get real. The only thing that prohibits governmental tyranny is a well armed populace. It's the ENTIRE rationale behind the Second Amendment.

Great post and a better point ! If I know you are armed and willing to defend
yourself and or your property. I would be a fool to attempt to harm you.

In a simpler scenario , Mean dog in yard vs. yard with no dog , which fence do you jump ?

In most cases you need the threat of violence to preserve peace.

What the heck are you on about? I never said anything regarding condition of the Indian media, the American media, or any other media.

...but since you bring it up I will make this observation about the media.

It seems that some media outlets provide more information than some readers are comfortable with. When confronted with these offensive truths these readers tend to lash out, sometimes in an amusingly random fashion.

Skunker, dude...

While I agree with you in pricipal, guns do provide somewhat of a deterrant. They do also result in starting the "power struggle"...

"You have a pistol, I get a auotmatic. They you get a mortor, I get a tank..."
Etc. etc.
You get what I mean, right ?

I certainly feel you have the right and obligation to protect yourself and family any way you need to, but I know that the threat of gun violence is not the end all. It tends to create more problems than what it solves (unless you actually kill the person, but then you have other problesm :) ).

I think were on the same page ! All Im saying is IF I know you have a weapon
in your home and your neighbor does not .I think I would do onto your neighbor rather than you. ( NOT ME , I'm JUST SAYING IF I WAS TO BE A VIOENT CRIMINIAL ) I would choose my target.

So If weapons are restricted , criminals will have them and then everyone else becomes the target. I honestly believe in live and let live , I just don't ever plan on becomming a stat !

I thought I had the last word? I guess not. What you don't get qutar is that the American media has conditioned the American people (most) to believe that all whackos are either sikh, muslim, iraqis, iranians or whatever flavour of the month George Bush decides they want to pick on. What congress should really worry about is within their own borders and it's no wonder most of the world has a hate on for the USA.

Don't put me in the same boat as the rest of the world, since I've lived in the US and my wife is from the US and still have many friends there. I've seen the way the system works and you've gotta be blind not to figure out that the media is the puppet of the government. Look at Al Jeezera, same shit different pile, although they have no specific country pulling their strings.

While some valid points were raised for the reasons on owning a gun, one large problem which seems to be overlooked is the fact that there are alot of people in this world, that when they are confronted with opposition, over-react. I wonder how many people in North America have been injured or killed by people who have over-reacted to situations ie: temporary insanity, road rage, etc...If the guns were not present, people would end up with fat lips or bloody noses...
Don't get me wrong, I have done my share of moose and deer hunting, but in the woods I don't have to contend with joe public pissing me off in traffic...:D

Not anywhere near the number of defensive uses of firearms against criminals..around 2.5 million a year.

Ask yourself this:

It takes at least 5 minutes for the cops to get to you if you call 911. If some dope crazed fiend is kicking in your front door with a knife what do you do in those 5 minutes until the cops get there? If you are armed it's a pretty easy question. You drop the bastard. If you are unarmed the answer isn't so cut and dried now is it?

Read the Kleck study...the most comprehensive study on the defensive use of firearms out there.

it was a good read Hondo, a long read, but a good read. You mean cops would actually show up within 5 minutes, geez, it usually takes 5 minutes to get through to the 911 operator....

No offense taken here, Caddy... It is ALWAYS an utter tragedy when innocents die whether it's from drunk drivers, whackos, gangbangers, or fanatics sporting semtex fashion wear. I just retired from the service without ever having to go into combat (Lucky me, I guess) When a fellow soldier dies, we feel badly about it, but we move on because it is our chosen path. When a DeSouza dies, I not only feel badly about that, but also have a feeling of failure because I feel in some small way I have not been able to prevent it from happening and it is part of my job as a soldier. And Desouza was not a soldier in service. Misuse of firearms, alcohol and driving, religious fanaticism are all here to stay, unfortunately. It's the 'elected' people that make the laws dealing with the offenders we need to get cracking the whip on.
