View Full Version : old c ban satellite positioner & receiver- question
nikita 09-07-2006, 08:06 PM hi guys, I need a little help here from some of you that know about C ban satellites. Im just used to my regular megasat FTA...and I could really use some one with some knowlege of C ban....:) i do not plan on putting up c ban dish
I have come across an old C ban set up and Im really not sure what it is.. I know that one of the boxes is the satellite positioner ..and the other box is an old receiver..
The satellite positioner says: PROSAT 210
in the back it has conections for : motor & sensor:)
The receiver says: Drake ESR 240A Earth Station Receiver
Both of them power on
Can someone please tell me what I have come across, I do not have a c ban satellite and know nothing about these. Is there a way to test them to see if they work & what can I do with these??? or is this something that someone else would be interested in---- and if so i could put on the forums
but i need someone who has knowlege of c ban to explain to me what i have.. kindly .
any and all information will be greatly apprecated..
thanks in advance gentlemen:)
acs33 09-07-2006, 08:17 PM with out the c-band lnb's and proper dish there isn't much you can do with them
what VideoCipher cartridge does it have (it's behind the metal panel on the back)
DO NOT PULL IT OUT WITH THE RECIEVER PLUGGED IN
if it's black and says 010 you may have something there
nikita 09-07-2006, 08:38 PM I do not plan to put up c ban dish:
got this from someone -- and I needed to know exactly what it is - i was thinking of selling - once i find out what it is.
ok the top of the receiver is off now and I need to know what is videocipher cartrage?? and where is it located---what it looks like??
this is really different from my fta im used to. but since fta is down I am using 301-10 w/rom 102
acs33 09-07-2006, 09:37 PM this is what it looks like and different rev's are different colors
http://www.criscros.net/Default_files/videocipherII.jpg
it's located in the back of the receiver behind a metal cover
REMEMBER DO NOT REMOVE THIS CARTRIGE WITH THE UNIT PLUGGED IN

nikita 09-07-2006, 09:48 PM well thank you for your info, ... unfortunately I do not see anything that looks anything like that picture.
on the inside of the ird, the board says drake 1983.......old..lol
I googled this ird and really did not find anything.. maybe the ird is useless?
what about the satellite positioner??? anyone with any views on this
acs33 09-07-2006, 09:52 PM does the back look like this
http://i14.ebayimg.com/03/i/08/10/49/7a_1_b.JPG
nikita 09-07-2006, 11:39 PM no the back of the ird is solid- it does not have that door in the above picture.
acs33 09-07-2006, 11:42 PM well it's always worth something to the right person
nikita 09-08-2006, 06:30 AM thank you kindly for trying to help, you have been very nice.
ok scraping the receiver-----antique and useless.....lol
cant find any info on the positioner either.......... maybe this is scrap too, ....eh
anyway i got this stuff from an installer-- and i guess just scrap it
G8R027 09-08-2006, 07:52 AM If not good for anything else it should work to move a Big Ugly Dish(BUD). As explained in another post that escapes me at the moment.
qutar 09-08-2006, 09:02 AM There is an ESR 240A currently listed on eBay at a "Buy It Now" price of $6. Antique dish movers sell for similar prices...but those old Drakes sure are purdy, in a retro kind of way
Around here the positioner would probably generate more interest than the receiver.
if you want to setup for FTA
1 replace lnb to dss
2 keep dish positioner for future dish move
hook FTA receiver on move dish to 110 will get DN channel
stan31 09-10-2006, 10:37 AM hey guys aside from what he has ,to descramble he would need the 2000 series descrambler regards stan
zippy0381 09-10-2006, 08:31 PM now that is a blast from the past. you can't even get parts for those things.some people paint a nice picture on there old eyesore's. they are good for a couple of bucks if you take them back for scrap alluminum. out with old and in with the new.
