View Full Version : Dead Fortec Star Lifetime Classic NA

I believe I blew a fuse in my Fortec Star Lifetime Classic NA receiver. The problem is...I am electronically ignorant, and can't seem to find a user replaceable fuse anywhere. Furthermore, I can't seem to find any advice as to where to test to see if power is getting where it needs to be.

First of all, let me explain why I believe this is a power issue, and not something that a JTAG will fix. I was messing around with my receiver, trying to see what I could get using an old directv dish & lnb. However, unknown to me, the wire to the lnb fell loose from the coax connector inside the feedarm. BTW...I was doing all my connections with the receiver powered up (I know better, but can't change that now). When I came back inside, I had a LNBF error on the LED display. With the receiver still powered on, and at the aiming screen, I ran outside and fixed the cable. When I returned to the receiver, I turned the main power off and back on to clear the error. The receiver worked for about 5 seconds, and went dark. No LEDs..nothing. On a side note, the software on the receiver is the official Fortec software, however I updated it from their website which voided my warrenty.

As I said, I know enough about electronic stuff to be dangerous, so thought I would post a question to this board before I hurt myself.

I did do some testing with my voltmeter. I do have continuity from the power cord to the hipot. I did test at the CN2 connector on the power board, and nothing seems to be making it that far. I did test for continuity through the ribbon cable to the main board. I do not have any power coming out of the LNB connector on the back of the box.

So...I am looking for suggestions. I'm willing to try just about anything since I just bought this receiver & it makes me sick to think that I have already messed it up.

Thanks in advance for your help.
