I am in the process of building an atmel programmer to prepare the attiny2313 chip for use in my mik loader. I'm following the wiring diagram that came with the programming package (Programming attiny to mimic at90s2313.zip). I uploaded this file to the Dish Archive. Anyway, to anyone who is familiar with the diagram, my question is which type of 3.57 MHz crystal is represented? The diagram shows the xtal connected to two 27pf caps on one side of the crystal. The other side of the xtal is connected to pins 4 & 5 of the attiny. In other words, it looks like the xtal has four terminals in the pic. I realized that the xtal comes in two forms - 2 and 4 terminal. So should I be installing the 4-terminal xtal? If so, which way would it go? (The 4-terminal xtal is rectangular with 2 connection points at each end.) I know that pins 4 and 5 on the attiny are xtal-in and xtal-out. How or which way are these connected to the xtal?
Thanks for any help you can give.
