View Full Version : Can I run 97W through a DP34 switch?
OakRaider81 07-17-2006, 12:55 PM I am currently running a CoolSat5k using DP equipment (2 DP LNBs to track 110 & 119 through a DP34 switch). What I would like to do is set up an FTA dish (36") to point at 97W and pick up int'l channels. My question is can I run the linear KU signal through a DP34 switch? If I decide to take it one step further and set up a motorized dish for FTA, can I run that throught the DP34 or will I have to set up a dedicated FTA setup (dish/switch/rcvr)?
Thanks in advance,
-Raider81
muki_hiphop 07-17-2006, 02:10 PM nop ,use a diseq switch...
pappapump 07-17-2006, 02:21 PM Wrong voltage and it could mess up your LNB.
OakRaider81 07-17-2006, 02:40 PM Thanks muki_hiphop and pappapump... That was what I needed to know!

h3lt3r_sk3lt3r 07-19-2006, 01:44 PM I don't know if it can mess up your linear lnb, but I've been running a linear lnb through my dp34 for 6 months or so and haven't had a problem yet (and hopefully won't have one, wasn't even aware that it could get damaged.)
h3lt3r_sk3lt3r 07-19-2006, 01:47 PM P.S. when using a Superdish setup you are connecting to a 121 sat using an FSS linear lnb which goes through the dp34 switch.

h3lt3r_sk3lt3r is correct. The DP34 requires Dish Pro LNB's for switching.
FSS linear lnb's fit that requirement, but cost about $150.
Your best bet would be to find a used 121 or 105 Lnb off of a Superdish-dishnet will be off of those sats by the end of this year.

h3lt3r_sk3lt3r 07-19-2006, 04:38 PM Well on my fta dish I'm using a standard generic ku linear lnb, works great with a dp34 switch.

Raider, you absolutely CAN use a DP34 switch to pick up 97W. I've done this install using either DPro LNB's (singles or quads)...down into a DP34 and then added the Globecast setup to hit 97W, then down into Coolsat 5K's many times.
There's NEVER been any LNB damage and there's never been any channels not picked up...ever.
As for the switching issue, I've had only one installation where the client had to turn his CS5K off, then on again to go from the Charlie birds to IA5. Every other installation was able to handle it without a problem. For that one person, I picked up a DP301.013 without a card off fleabay and put it on port #1 on the DP34 switch and the Coolsat on port #2. That effectively solves all the switching issues.
When you ask questions like that, remember to ask if the people have ever TRIED what you're asking. There's a lot of "information" that we supposedly can't do floating around that's complete bullshit. People read and pass along this information thinking it's gospel. An example of this for the naysayers is the oh so popular...you cannot use a SW21 with a Pansat 2500A.
On over a dozen installations, if the diseqc brought to the job were no good...ie: Coolsat brand diseqc...I'd substitute a SW21 to get the client up and running until I could get back with a fully functioning replacement. The SW21 works fine, the only thing is the client has to turn the unit off and then on again to go from 110 to 119. That's good enough to get someone watching TV and frankly, it's not that big a deal to have to turn your unit off then on again.
If you have a DP34 laying around, use it...you'll be watching TV bro.

OakRaider81 07-20-2006, 12:33 PM Thanks for the info Icefalkon! One other quick question. If I decide to go with a motorized dish (not sure if I want to do that yet or not), am I correct in assuming I NEED a diseqc switch (I have a CoolSat switch sitting in a box somewhere...)in order to allow the CoolSat to controll the motor?
Thanks again for the info!

No problem Raider, we're here to help. As for adding a motor, yes...for that you'll need a diseqc switch.

thongsai 07-21-2006, 12:20 AM from my experience.. yes and no.
it will work.. the dp34 will switch fine.. but some tp just dont come in. so in my setup i couldnt use it.. im planning to have a 22khz switch b4 the dp34

Did you hook directly from the linear LNB to the CS and do a blind scan first?

thorn1968 07-21-2006, 06:18 AM someone replied to a question I posted, and stated that the diseq was not compatible with the dishpro lnb's??? is that just a dc voltage issue?

Hey thorn,
That is completely erroneous. You can use a diseqc with any of the LNB's. When using a DishPro LNBF dual or quad...you have to run TWO cables out of the DPro LNBF down into the diseqc switch. Basically it's like this...when you're using the DPro LNBF alone, one cable will bring 110 and 119 down to your receiver. HOWEVER...when using a diseqc in the mix...you have to run two RG6's down into the diseqc (one for each bird) because you're adding a third and / or fourth satellite into the mixture. I hope this helps you bro.
