View Full Version : Dreaming of a dreambox...
qrb123 05-07-2006, 09:27 AM I am strongly considering a dreambox. I want a pvr and, and I love linux.
While I am new to FTA I got a pretty good idea of how my hardware works, and have my viewsat up and going.
I have worked in IT for 10+ years, I run linux at home and am typing this post on a gentoo box. I have been using linux since 1995.
I love this forum, but it's dreambox info seems to be lacking. Is there another forum, website, etc. that any of you could suggest that focuses more on dreambox that I could add to my daily reading list?
qrb123 05-09-2006, 05:26 PM nevermind, I am going to use myth tv, and build a pc for this task, cheaper then the dreambox 7020, and way more powerfull and feature rich....

qrb123 05-13-2006, 10:27 AM Oh gotcha, thanks for the info!
But once I found out about dvb-s cards, and I could use them with myth I was sold... Besides, it will be a ton cheaper... I already have an old 2.8ghz server laying around the house doing nothing... I ordered dvb-s cards a few minutes ago...
I have wanted to set up a myth tv box for a while, but never liked the idea of using a ir dongle to control a set top box... Now that I can take the stb out of the equation I am excited as hell to do this!!! Myth TV looks awsome!!!
Basicaly for the price of another viewsat, I am going to have the best setup possible in the world!!!

qrb123 05-16-2006, 12:06 PM muwahahahahahahahahaha!!!!! :)
FAt and Happy, I too have been a carder from the H days and FTA, I just bought a Dreambox, and was considering a DVB card, I thought they would probably be a lot of work to set up, but so far this DM500 is kicking my tail(LOL). It doesn't get any easier as you move up the chain for "free tv".But I
guess that is the fun of it.:D
mannypr511 06-22-2006, 08:38 PM What dvb card is the best for myth tv?
Chemdawg 07-10-2006, 01:42 PM I started out with a Pantec ms back in 2004. When I purchased it, I wanted to throw it out the window. Well I started getting involved with FTA forums online and started reading about the Dreambox. It really wasn't that popular back in 2004, so when I purchased my 7000 in Jan of 2005, it was a shot in the dark type of thing. Well let me tell you. I went through alot of reasearching with this box, and I can honestly say that it was worth the money. I have had less downtime than alot of boxes, I don't have to worry about Malicious code, and there is a huge knowledge base out there on them. Matter of fact, I am going to start adding some of that knowledge for the Dreambox here since there isn't much on it here. The dreambox can be very intimidating for someone who is not familiar with the Linux OS. But if you have the will to learn, it pays off. I know I'm a newb to this site, but trust me. The dreambox is can carry it's own weight.
tmsmop1 07-12-2006, 03:10 PM it's great to here someone knows dreambox well. i have 2
dreambox 500's and i think i may need some help when we get back up.
