hi,
my friends coolsat keeps shutting itself off when he turns it on and tries to watch t.v.,
but it lets him go to the menu screen and it doesn't shut off until he selects a channel,
he tried doing a factory reset but still no go,
has anybody heard of this problem
thanks

Hi there,
Well I'd suggest doing a force push of the factory bin down onto the unit first.
Connect the unit to the computer and have the proloader ready to go with the factory bin. Have the coolsat turned OFF from the back switch.
With one hand on the mouse with pointer over the connect button and the other hand on the coolsat's back switch...you're ready to go.
Click the mouse and flip the switch at the same time. It might take a few times to get the timing right. Put the factory software down, then hook it up to the TV to see if the problem is still there. If NOT...then go ahead and put the 1.20 bin back down on the unit.
Let us know how it goes!!

Sounds familiar...
Check the cables and switch. I'm thinking there's a problem with the switch (assuming he's using one). Try connecting Coolsat directly to one lnb and see if it still restarts itself.

I had the same problem. The receiver was grounding out. The problem was that one of the little silver wires was toucing the cooper wire and my really bad crimp job. cut the cable put it in properly and all was good.

Bingo.
That's the usual reason for a Coolsat of any generation to turn on and off again...either grounding wires OR the shield is in contact with the center conductor. I make all my own patch cables and have an Ideal Crimpmaster. Fantastic crimp tool that works flawlessly each time. However of course there's "user error"...ie: not pulling the grounding down correctly with each crimp.
Rule of thumb...always check and re-check your crimps before putting your box online.

LOL exactly!
Damn fine tool. Being a third generation electrician I have a "thing" for good tools. Runs in the blood as they say!
Whoever invented it did a great job of bringing the whole "crimping" world forward. Beats the hell out of the old RG59 and RG6 crimpers that kill your hand after 5 or 6 crimps!
BTW....have you seen the new Cheeze Wiz style caulk that's out???
FANTASTIC!!! Same concept as cheese wiz, it lasts forever and automatically seals on the inside so the caulk doesn't dry out.
I mean, how many of us installers...open a tube of caulk for a job....do what we gotta do...and by the time we need it again, it's dried out?
I just picture two guys from DAP...hittin the herb...eatin munchies...when one looks at the other guy holding the cheeze wiz bottle and goes..."DUDE...I HAVE AN IDEA!"
LOL
