The manual for the 6000HXC is pretty weak. It mentions the various settings but has no explanation as to what each setting does. My first mistake was right at the top when I selected "Antenna Settings" for the first time. A default satellite was in the top space of the menu. This was not a satellite I needed so how to get to one I want? If you click on the satellite you're asked whether to save it or not. If you're not careful and click "OK" you will have added that satellite to your list. I never figured out how to delete it after it was saved. The delete button on "Edit Satellite" was always grayed out. Later, when I did a factory reset I was able to start over with a clean slate. The trick was to use the right arrow instead of the OK button when asked to save. When using the right arrow button the "save" changes to "NO" and a new drop down appears giving you all the satellites.

I was looking to scan 110 and 119 so I went down the list until Echo 7 appeared. I clicked it and it inserted at the top of the antenna setup menu. I went down the menu to LNB type and selected Dish Pro. I went down the menu to the DiSEqC switch setting. This was confusing to me because since the Dish Pro LNB has its own switch built in and no DiSEqC switch was necessary, I made the assumption that this setting should be turned off. For this particular LNB I found that it would not scan correctly until I set the 119 for DiSEqC #1 and 110 at DiSEqC #2.

Going down the list I came to LNB power. I tried it "Off" and "ON". It didn't seem to matter. The reason I started with "OFF" was because I have a Dish Pro Quad and two of the outputs feed my HD PVR921. So I figured power was already being applied by the 921 and I was afraid adding power from the 6000HXC might damage the LNB or even the receivers. When earlier scans didn't work for me I eventually turned the power "ON" and seemed to get a stronger "level" reading. So I have left them "ON"

Going to the bottom of the list I changed the scan FTA to scan ALL.

I left everything else in the list alone except for the issue of Tuner settings. The manual says you can set the Tuner setting to be either "Tuner 1", "Tuner 2" or "Tuner 1 & 2". That's all it says. Well, this is a 2 tuner receiver so I set the tuner to "Tuner 1 & 2". Seems like the right thing to do, right? WRONG! During scanning you have to set the tuner setting to "Tuner 1". If you use "Tuner 1 & 2" you will end up with duplicate channels. Do your scan and then switch both 119 and 110 back to "Tuner 1 & 2". You'll be asked to re-save the satellites.

The last thing to do before scanning is to click "Edit satellite/TP". Echo 7 has to be renamed ECHO 119 and Echo 8.6 must be renamed ECHO 110. Be sure to put a space between the letters and the numbers.

Now, go to the Scan Satellite part of the setup menu and select Echo 119 and the scanning will begin. Once the process completes, scan 110. After they are both scanned click "sat" on the remote and select Echostar Package. The satellite channels will be correct for Dishnetwork.

As for software updates, I put my update on before I did any setup for satellite scanning. When I did a factory reset I assumed the bin was re-written back to factory each time but I now believe that the bin remained at each reset. I say this because I was going to do the update after my last scan worked but when I could view programming I realized the bin had not been reset.

To get a new bin installed:....I downloaded the new bin's zip file to my computer and unzipped it. I powered off my 6000HXC and pulled the hard drive. I plugged it into my computer using the USB supplied cable. Once I saw the icon for the drive appear on my desktop I simply copied it to the firmware folder in the drive. Then I did a "safely remove hardware" by right clicking the icon in the bottom tray on my desktop. Once it told me it was safe to remove the drive I unplugged the drive and put it back into my 6000HXC.

I powered up my 6000HXC and went to "Software Upgrade from HDD". I clicked on it and was asked for the password (0000) after which I was shown the bin I had just saved. By clicking on it, it was downloaded into the receiver. Upon completion the screen said to switch OFF and then ON. Once that was done the unit powered up with the upgrade in place.

There you are. That's how I got my 6000 to work. The freezing I had been experiencing seems to have been eliminated, and I'm now a happy camper. Hope this helps you as well. Thanks to all of you for your input without which I would still be pulling out what's left of my hair.

i had purchase 2 units last week one for myself the other for my brother. I had a 3500s before this unit.. my primary reason to use this unit is to record shows while I am at work so I can enjoy them in the evenings..

Anyways the unit came in last week and I had a chance to play with it over the weekend.

This is how I set it up . I have dish 500 with two lnbs one pointing at 110 the other at 119.

Since the receiver has 2 input I put 110 and 119 in each slot.

There are two problems that are continuous for me, first of all:

1.) Continuing freezing of the unit, especially when I am doing PIP unit will loose channels or channel searching and will freeze.
2.) Second problem is the EPG sometimes comes and goes away.. I have to run epg loading several times to get the epg to load everything.. Even then I have to be very gentle with it.. Seems like this unit is slow like my 3500.
3.) I tried to use the pvr functionality in recording a few things but it seems if I am recording something and switch to a different satellite via pip it is slow and freezes.

So in reality the main purpose I bough the unit for does not even do me any good.

Can someone shed some light as to what my problems can be?

Also tonight I am thinking about putting that diseq 4x1 switch in to see if my prob disappear…

I've noticed how difficult this 6000 is as compared to my PVR921 or my new 622. You have to treat this 6000 with kidd gloves or you'll miss your recording. I'm sharing my dish with my 622 now and so I only have one tuner hooked up. I never could get the unit to let me watch a recorded program while recording another, even when I had both tuners.

Right now, when I schedule something to record, I go the the Pre-Record edit menue and set the alarm to "off". I've found that if I don't, the alarm will come on at the end of the recording and won't let the unit switch to the next program in the schedule. By turning off the alarm I've been pretty successful in recording multipe programs.

To record a program, I go to the EPG and get on the channel i want to record. I select the "schedule" button which gives me the times for the program. I select one of them and exit. Then I go to the pre-record edit and turn off the alarm. I proceed back to the epg and do the next program.

BTW, I don't believe the diseq 4x1 switch will work with the unit. Be sure you have the right type of dish and LNB selected in your setup.

I have a question. You mention putting 110 into tuner 1 and 119 on tuner 2 on the pansat. Well Im having a problem with that. Im new to this so if its a simple fix dont kill me!

if I take input 1 and input 2 off of my dish network reciever (VIP 622 DVR) and plug it into the pansat's input 1 and 2. I can only get echo 110 and 119 from tuner 1. I am capable of picking up all the other echo satalites as well, but only on that one tuner. the second tuner is basically useless from what I could tell.

I am a dish subscriber with the HD bronze and it apears the dish has a dual and a single LNB. Not sure if that helps.

I havent found a way to seperate them. Am I doing something wrong?

I've followed the walkthru step by step but I seem to be missing alot of the programing and I keep droping signal when I change channels.

I also have a 622 with "Bronze" + all movies and superstations with locals. The reason for that is I get all HD channels except National Geographic and because I have all movie channels I get the HD ones as well. My locals are two HD and two digital. Over Dish I get all four locals and over the air I have to choose only one at a time on the HD shows because there is only one over the air tuner.

As for the satellite channels, because of the two satellite tuners, I get all satellite channels I subscribe to on both tuners. Therefore I can record two satellite channels at once or an over the air channel plus a satellite channel or record two shows while watching a previously recorded one. I have three satellites being captured for this. Because I have three satellites comming in, my dish has ony one cable coming into the house for the 622 but that cable carries all three satellites. So once inside, Dish supplied me with a splitter that takes the one cable and connects both tuners on the 622. So I have everything on bothe tuners.

Now, my Superdish actually has a second cable coming into the house carrying all three satellites. I have that one connected to my 6000's tuner 1. So I also have everything from the same three satellites coming into tuner one of the 6000. If I had another splitter like the one on my 622, I would be able to use the two tuners of the 6000 much like the 622 does. However, I wouldn't have the same flexibility with the 6000. For instance I've never been able to access the 6000 once it begins recording a programmed show. But I have been able to record on both tuners before.

As for scanning satellites into the 6000, you only want one tuner active during the scan or you will end up with duplicate channels half of which won't display a signal. Scan with one tuner and then reconfigure your 6000 to use both tuners.

I'm using a superdish with settings on the 6000 for DiSEqC applied to 1=121,
2=119 and 3=110. Those are just settings as I'm not using a DiSEqC switch.

Back when I was using a DP Quad lnb I ran all four cabels to both my 921 and my 6000. Again no switch but I configured the 6000 with DiSEqC 3=119 and 2=110.

Hope this helps ya.
