I used bin files from this site. The 257 and the VP3.
I used the 257 first and got the night-rider light effect.
How do I get out of this?
Is it a software issue?
What am I doing wrong?
Is the BL 1.4 updater OK?
Any ideas?

HELP!!! PLEASE!!

You're lucky, you still have some lights going, so you should be able to get it going through the the serial port using the Blacklist Updater, which allows you to load the boot file as well as the bin file, if that doesn't work at first. Essentially, if you do get lights on your display, it can be saved without having to Jtag (open up, connect wires to the CPU board and run to the parallel port of the computer)

Now don't ask me where to find the file, I can't remember on which forum. I've been looking for a fix to my machine for the past 16 hours straight, and it's become a blur. Here are the instructions from the zip file, which is called "howtofix.zip" (blacklist updater, boot60.bin and a couple of other files):

How to reflash a non-working Pantec/Pansat 2500a receiver after using 250a bin.

1. Swtich unit off in back.
2. Open the downloader proggy Blacklist STB UPDATER 1.3a.exe file.
3. IMPORTANT -- Click on the "Boot" option before you load the new file.
4. Select Boot60.bin in Bin window
4. Turn on back switch
5. Before - - - - completes, start the download and let it finish.
6. Turn off the unit's power switch on the back.
7. Turn receiver back on.
8. Now you should see Knightrider lights - - - - back and forth over and over. This is normal.
9. Now load the Pansat factory bin (Pansat 2500A_040730_224_api(N).bin) with Blacklist STB UPDATER 1.3a.exe.
9a. IMPORTANT -- Click on the "Bin" option before you load the new file.
10 Click on the "FIX" Button.
11. Start download... let it complete. The reciever will reboot when done.
12 Turn unit off and on again with back switch. Let the reciever boot up all the way.
13 Load the X-85BL_050614_249a_fixed_autoroll_api(N).bin
14 IMPORTANT -- Click on the "Bin" option before you load the new file.
15 Download the 249a bin and let the receiver boot up by itself.
16 Now you are done... just load a good channel list and watch TV again.

(Note: Make sure you use the Blacklist STB Updater v 1.3a instead of the factory downloader. If you do use this downloader, make sure that you click "boot" button before downloading the Boot60.bin and click "Bin" before you download the other bins.)

Hope this helps a bit, but be careful and make your own searches, I'm new at this as well. Good luck!

So.........
I just can't load the 257 file and run.
I have to load a factory bin, and an autoroll plus the 257bin?
I watch a guy do one like mine at a satellite store.
I don't know how he programmed it but he had to go to parental control,
punch in the password at the 2nd line,
Then scroll down to "set default",
Then hit OK...Exit, exit exit and the "BAD or Scrambled channel" heading was gone.
There is no one silver bullet type bin that does it all?
I think ASSHOLES that work for dishnet put up a lot of these programs.

A pop sound is NOT reassuring! When you load a bin file, make sure it is clone safe. ALL new bins originating from future-fta and Blacklist are DESIGNED to KILL your clone.

buffalojoem, if it doesn't work with the loader you probably need to jtag your receiver. It's basically flashing the receiver flash memory directly on the board. It requires getting or making a special cable from the Jtrag header to the parallel port of the computer and using Wall.exe and Jkeys.exe. Future-fta has a great jtag section with plenty of technical details. Beware, it's a hardline Pansat site, don't get involved in clone killer bin politics and don't download anything from future-fta as their stuff is deseigned to KILL clones. I would have gladly post pictures of my cable and the Jtag diagrams if I could.

Another source of jtag information is right here. I should have mentioned it earlier; I just don't know this forum well enough. here ya go with the links, thansk to our moderator mas521ca:

how to jtag: http://forums.dsstester.com/vbb/showthread.php?t=26988

how to jkeys: http://forums.dsstester.com/vbb/showthread.php?t=27227

As for myself I lost several days over this latest fiasco but got my machine back. It's now running as a Fortec because the EPG works better, but its doesn't have the echostar package channel numbering system. pantecdvb.com is a great site for pantec specific files, I get my bins from there now, as they actually test them for safety.

HTH...

Have you gotten your issue resolved? Having knightrider lights is a sign the thing should be responding to serial port loading. I don't recommend you try loading any bins by way of Jtag. Have tried that once before, it doesn't seem to work very well.

I've been busy doing other stuff so bear with me. I'll be checking that thread tomorrow if there's a response.

hey slamjam,

I hate to be negative but you really need to do some reading. You just posted in, and therefore updated a thread that was inactive for SEVEN MONTHS! The bin you are seeking is no longer current, and NO FTA BIN is decrypting much DN programming right now. You need to do alot of reading and get caught up, then PATIENTLY wait for a fix.
