I have been trying to get KCAL channel 9 from LA on echostar 7 (119) but unable to do so, can somebody please help me with that. I am a new pansat user and still not very familiar with all the intricacies of the system. I am also unable to get any satellites other than echo sats with multiple repeats. thanks.

Let me guess... the only reason I can see for someone to want KCAL 9 desparately is ot get Lakers games. Am I right? :)

Use Lyngsat for find the info for the channel you are looking for. For me, sometimes some TPs have a slightly different freq number, usually within +/- 4. It does not happen often, but I don't know why sometimes there is that discrepency.

I would first try TP scan the TP listed on Lyngsat first. If it does not show up, try either blind scan the satellite or change the TP freq a bit and retry TP scan. It just so happens that I added KCAL to my pansat 3500 last night. I can't remember the exact TP freq I used. But most likely it was what listed on Lyngsat.

you are completely right, it is because of the lakers away games that I want to add kcal, I have tried setting up different transponders to no avail, also have tried blind scan without luck.

Okay, finally got everything working. I'll share my experience with everyone.

There were actually several problems compounded at the same time, which made them much harder to figure out.

1. My dishpro adaptor was causing problems with TP frequencies. Someone suggested that it might be putting too much power to the line. While I don't know if that is the reason, but I did have to remove the adator to get the TP switching working much much more stable. This problem has caused my blind scan to work very poorly in the beginning.

2. DP channel list is required to work with SuperDish and DP34 when not using DP adapter. (while legacy channel list is needed with DP adapter).

3. An extra Dish Network IRD needs to be connected to one of the DP34 switch'es output to provide the extra power needed for the switch.

4. LNB Type Standard worked well for 110 and 119 (DSS). But for 121 (FSS), I have to set the LNB Type to Single Stacked. Otherwise, I will not be able to get Dishpro TP wiith V freq that are converted from legacy TP H freq.

5. For some reason, the freq for some TPs my pansat 3500 gets from blind scan is a bit off from the TP listed at LyngSat. For some TPs, the difference seems to be okay, but for other TPs, I won't get any signal if I use the freq listed on LyngSat. So by deleting every channels and TP's I got from a downloaded channel list, then do a blind scan for each of the 3 satellites, I was finally able to get all channels that I needed. Like someone has suggested, the most reliable thing to do is still to do a blind scan or TP scan to find the channels rather than using someone else's channel list.

Hope this will save time for someone else out there.

This is a quote from my post on another site. It details some problems/solutions I've encountered. Maybe one of them fits yours? You might want to tell us what your set up is too. (Dish, LNB, switch, FTA config <LNB Type, freq,....> etc.)

I'll do the best I can to help a fellow Lakers fan.
(soon to be ex-fan if they don't get their act together this year...)

my setup is single dish connected to 119 and dish 500 connected to 110, reason for single dish was to make sure the 119 had very good reception, I am using the diseqc mini switch that came with the pansat 3500. ONe problem and I am not sure if it is software or hardware related is that despite the 119 single dish my receiver still says no quality even though blind scan brings all the other channels in except for kcal. any input is sincerely appreciated. I hate to have to listen to other commentators during the lakers away games.

what is the type of your LNB for 119?

Ppl reported that legacy Dish Network LNB will not work with FTA. Also, DishPro Dual LNB that has an internal SW21 may not work either since SW21 essentially makes DP LNB acts like legacy LNB. But I don't own those LNB, so I can't tell u for sure base on personal experience.

You said you used TP 12253 for KCAL. Did you get that TP freq from blind scan, or entered it based on what is reported online or from a downloaded channel bins? Like I said, some ppl might have slightly different freq than what is reported. What you can get from your own blind scan is more reliable.

I am having same kind of issue. I have dual dp lnb with internal sw21. I get all the channels from 110 but with good level and quality, I don't get channels from 119. I am confused, please help.

yes I got the tp 12253 from a blind scan, and also from channel list and information on lyngsat. my dish is legacy dish 500 and I do get all the other channels except for San Diego and KCAL 9 from LA, and all those channels are on the 12253 tp. when I do a scan of tp 12253 I get a no channels found message. I read in another forum that it has something to do with a spotbeam and the range of the spotbeam is only about 300 miles, maybe that is my problem, I am about 500 miles away from LA and SD

I think its more likes an issue with sw21 than spotbeam. Many posts have said FTA will not work with SW21 and legacy LNB. I don't have those equipments to confirm it.
I am not sure, but I don't think KCAL is on spotbeam. If you really cannot get KCAL, you can try to get NBA Ticket channels instead. I think just about all NBA games are available from the NBA channels.

All my NBA channels are non open or show only DN logo.I have read in forums that scanning TP frequencies on the night of the game will bring in the required channels. Can some post a procedure for this please.

NBA channels, like some of the special event and PPV sports channels, get shuffled around different TP's relatively frequently. You'll have to update your channels accordingly to get them. You'll either have to know exactly which TP's to scan for (TP scan), or do a blind scan. You may use resources like Lyngsat to find out which TP to scan. But I don't know how quickly sites like that get updated, and you might have slightly different TP freq (+/- 4-ish) than what are listed.

That's how I do it, but I am not too crazy about the process. Perhaps someone out there might have a better way?
