Hi All...DTV and Charlie had caused me to stop testing :-). Now I want to try FTA, I called a dealer in CA for the cheapest thing I can get to test and it is Pansat 2500 for 149.00 US dollars. Before I place the order, he told me do bother because it will be a waste in a month or two. Why don't you buy newer model from a diff. manufacturers which cost from 250.00 to 450.00. I don't know if he is telling the truth or just scaming me to buy a more expensive system. Please verify if PANSAT 2500 and/or all PANSAT will be history within a month. Thanks very much in advance.

149 dollars for a few months is nothing compared to what you would pay to get all that is offered. He's just trying to get you to spend more $$, if he knows the future ask him to pick your lottery numbers. In this hobby there's no guarantees, choice is yours

Thanks guys...I'll go with Pansat 2500 or 2700 and you guys are right 149 is cheap for a few months worth but the fun is the testing.

I know pansat 2500 and 2700 don't have the tv guide...what other models or manufacturers that have? Thanks again.

Spend the extra $ for a 2700. Check out 1 of the sponsers on this site ftaempire.com has the 2700 for $169. Both the 2500 and 2700 have EPG (tv guide).

Good Luck!

I'm running pansat 2700a, and I'm a newbie on fta's. And it is working good for me, so if you can one for that price I would buy if you want to test.

also, on a side note the pansat 2500 has been discontinued....the 2700 took it's place...also...if a dealer has 1 it must be "nos"...or used....

Who told you that 2500 is discontinued? Actually there is not a whole lot difference between 2500 and 2700? I have 2500 for 2 years and i never, i said never, had any kind of problems with anything( installing flash, channel list etc.) I don't think Pansat 2500 is going anywhere for 1 more year at least. If you divide $150 by 3 years $50 per year. what else you want from it.
My point was that Pansat rocks!!! any model.
Obviously, when you invest money in any kind of thing you look for long term advantage, but in FTA there is no tommorrow. You can have all the channels at one night and a black screen for months.
Also, I can have the same channels on pansat 2500A as someone who owns any type of freaking FTA receiver.
But the key is,
Make sure you buy the Original Pansat 2500a. There are a lot of clones out there and they will get F**ked up really easy. Go with any Pansat model and i assure you that you won't be dissappointed with any one of them.

c+p from pansatusa website.....

This model is no longer in production since April, 2005.
It is replaced by Model 2700A or 3500S

i think all will admit: pansats are easy to set-up and work great.
i think the problem some people have (and rightly so) with pansat is: the clone killer code that was released also killed some real pansats.
i think you'll be happy with any ird you get. just be sure of what you load it with.

You can buy dozens of OriginalPansat 2500 now from dealers(ebay). pansat website is not the only way to buy it. Anyways, 2500a is the ancester of all the PANSAT models 2700,3500 and 5000.

is the processor speed the same on 2700a and 3500? the person I bought my 2700a is trying to sell me the 3500. he is saying that the 3500 has a chip inside that would protect the box from a ecm. Well he did not say ecm, his exact words "if the box goes down just unplug the box and it will reset because of the chip inside" What chip is he talking about? or is this all BS. thanks for your replies in advance.

The 3500 has a card slot. When the receiver goes down, just pull the card, reprogram and insert. You don't have to take the whole unit to the computer, just the card. You can add one to a 2500/2700 for around 75 bucks.
