I take no credit for this, found this form other site, here is C/P from the readme file, and enjoy testing.

HOW TO - FOR GETTING BLUE CARD ON A 510/508 WITH NO RESISTOR AT R331

This is what you must do:

1. Add Jtag <- simple works, and Backup your TSOP and EEPROM

2. Add slide switch for pin 1 grounding if using simple jtag. Adding a switch is not necessary but makes it easier to ground the pin 1 when you need to do flash programming. On the 510/508 model without R331 you have to ground pin 1 of the jtag when reading/writing the TSOP.

3. DO VID MOD

Parts needed:

DPDT/SPDT Slide Switch
Magnifying Glass
Precision knife/point tool
Wire, solder, and soldering station
(15-watt soldering gun from the shack will work)

First take a look at the three jpg's.

You will need to connect a wire to the 12-volt power on the power supply. This is clearly marked by the 12+ mark on top. I made my connection on the bottom as I had more room to work with. This is just a matter of preference. Just test and make sure you are getting 12 Volts before attaching to the TSOP.
Then find the TSOP on top of the board. Directly under the TSOP (bottom of board) you will find the wiring layout of the bottompoints.jpg. Find the two points and solder on wire b & a. Test the connectivity between the wire ends of point a and b to make sure you have good soldering points before doing the next step as it is irreversible. Once you know that your wires are secure and well connected put a piece of electrical tape or glue to hold the wires down. YOU DON'T WANT THESE TO FALL OFF! Once secure you will need to do a CUT TRACE between point A & B. BE VERY CAREFUL NOT TO CUT THROUGH THE BOARD! You will want to use your precision knife/point tool to slightly scrape a small amount of the trace so you can see the trace well. Then slightly dig under the trace and pop up a small section of the trace. Slightly scrape out under the removed trace and make sure the connection now between point a & b is gone.
Now you have your three wires view the dpdt jpg. You will want to connect the wires so that point b is on side and 12 volt is on the other. Put point A in the middle, as this is the wire to pin 12 of your TSOP2. Mark with a red Sharpe the position of the switch when 12 volts is going to point A. This way you don't exactly try to run your 508/510 with the vid mod on! You will want to keep the switch in normal mode with point b & a being connected.

YOU HAVE SUCCESSFULLY COMPLETED YOUR VID MOD!

4. Now we need to change the flash so that we can run a rom3

To do this you need to hook up the jtag and flip your pin 1 switch to ground.
Detect your unit. Once you set jkeys to the proper choice flip your VID MOD switch to the RED 12 VOLT setting. Then open flash programming in jkeys and choose TSOP2. Type in 7FFFFFAC in the area and choose read. You should get D500. Change this to 0000 and click write. Close flash programming and turn OFF VID MOD!!! DON’T FORGET! You now have unlocked the rom 3 BUT THERE IS ONE MORE STEP!!!

5. 120 GB HARD DRIVE UNITS

If you have a 120 GB HD you will have to downgrade your unit to a 80GB HD! You do not need to replace the HD drive but just simply change the LBA of the drive. This will report to 508/510 that you have a 80gb hd instead of a 120gb. Currently the 120gb hd is only being sold with yellow cards and will either deactivate your rom3 or make you likely candidate for an ECM!
If you have a 120gb HD you will need to take out your hard drive... If you have a seagate drive you will need to download Discwizard from seagate website (DO NOT ADD JUMPER)... Change LBA to 80gb size... If maxtor download Maxblast and change lba to 80gb (I BELIEVE you must add jumper)

LBA TO USE: 160086528

YOU WILL LOSE ALL YOUR CURRENT DATA OFF YOUR DRIVE DOING THIS INCLUDED ANY RECORDED PROGRAMS. IF YOU WISH TO KEEP THESE RECORDINGS YOU WILL HAVE TO RIP THEM. TO RIP THEM GO TO YAHOO GROUPS DISHRIP AND DISHMOD FOR MORE INFORMATION.

Now put everything backs together. Make sure your switches and jtag do not ground with any wiring or the case. I wrapped mine in black electrical tape and taped them to the top of the ide cable for the drive. This way they don't touch anything!
