i am a D@ve tester and have been for the last few years. Im not doin it just for the free tv (although that is a perk) however i am just now to the piont where i can afford to start purchacing new equipment to test somthing else. my question to all of you is this, what should i buy???? a pansat 2500a or a dish network setup from newbie09? i have a single lnb dtv dish and not a clue about what else is needed. from what i have read i can reuse my dish but must reposition it. I hate to ask questions, i spend most of my time reading but i would like the opinions of some of you veterans. thanx for the help. also, is there any newbie guide for the fta??? i hate being in the dark about things

OK this is the FTA forum, so are you confused or just bagging on this site ??
Dish or FTA, good choices, however it depends on your wants. "Testing" is very good with FTA, however D*** is more established. Both have pros and cons. If you have more specific questions I would be happy to try and answer them.
The pansat 2500 is a solid product and really not hard to set up, also seems much much more resistant to any ECMs to date.

The D*** setup is alot harder to master, still gets ECMs, and will eventually go the way of the P4 card in my opinion

The FTA boxes are used for Free to Air channels and will always be good for them, and rumor has it people have been getting more than FTA channels ;)

Either way you can reuse your single lnb dish for either.

As I said there is a difference and it really comes down to personal choice.

so are there differences between LNB's or are they standard? it sounds like i can get more programming with fta is this true? i found a coship reciever on ebay (item #) 5713791576, will this work for my obvious intended use? (cheap way out if so) is it true i will have no guide information with fta? which birds will i need to pick up to get all channels and can i do this with one dish? finally do i need anything special to run multiple recievers?

thanx alot for the help!!!

Dude....
I am not trying to flame you but everything you are asking can be found with a search both on this site and the other one listed below. Most of the answers you seek require some serious reading and not just simple answers. I love this site so try it first but there are stickys on the other site mentioned in their FTA section that goes into detail about all of this. Read, read, read.

FTA is not that tough if you have tested in the past but it does have a learning curve that needs to be overcome if you are coming from the single satellite / access card world. :D

i understand this fully and have read every relevant post regarding my issues. however, i am very sceptical in purchasing the neccessary equipment cuz im broke and this stuff is unreturnable if i get the wrong stuff. this is why i am trying to make sure i get it right. also Morbidfury said to post questions and he'd try and help

Yes there are many differences.
LNBs are key... any LNB that has a SW21 switch or any switch for that matter, will not work. If you want to hit more than one sat, you will need a diseq switch. (Many posts on this)

Yes you can get much more programming with FTA, however it is not plug and play, you need some knowledge of what you are doing. (Again many posts on this)

No you will not have a guide with FTA to my knowledge....as of yet that is.

You can not get "All" channels with one dish pointing at one bird, to use one dish to get many sats you will need a H and H motor. (it rotates dish to correct setting for multiple sats)

To run multiple recievers you will need an FTA box for each TV you will be watching. This is no different than regular boxes. Unless you want all the same channel on every TV in the house at one time.

The one you listed should work fine, however I have not seen nor used that type. The most popular is the Pansat 2500.

As far as being broke......I`ll have to let someone else answer because I am too.... :D

thanx alot. i knew i had to point the dish at multiple birds. i was thinking of doin a super dish setup with 2 or 3 LNBs. sounds like i can get 110 and 119 but im not sure about any others. i know the original super dish also included a dave bird but i know that would be useless to this point. still trying to figure which birds have what so i know where to start. guess i'll go back and re-read to see if i missed anything

thanx again for your help Morbidfury

I don't know if you have been to this site yet but it gives a good rundown of birds, locations and the channels they have on them.
