View Full Version : About to "GIVE UP" on Atmega !!
starsearcher 06-28-2004, 08:46 PM  Please can anyone help me figure out what I am doing wrong.
I have a 3900 IRD, and a 10 pin jumperless 18mhz Atgega.
I have run nearly every PFG file I can find, and after 3 days of programming the most i have been able to get is about 5 mins of open card before all channels go "red" in guide as unsubscribed with the exception of a few previews. OR depening on the PFG I use I get the "This card is not yet authorized message."
I have run Original juniorRoba, several times to clear card.
I have adjusted the lock/fuse settings to a FF AF 89 FF status with CKSEL 0,1,2,3 and tried checking and unchecking M103C more times than I can count anymore.
I though maybe it was my reciever so I obtained a subbed 2800 reciever yesterday extracted keys and used the Subbed Rom 3 Cam ID it came with. Still the same result.
Sat signals are good running subbed boxes fine.
I have checked box keys over and over on both units They are correct.
Have programed in CLKExternal and 18mhz crystal settings.
I have checked and used several Valid cam id's
I unplug the box every time for 5 min to erase any memory.
I also put the IRD number in as HEX, and DECIMAL, Somebody told me to try that, No luck, It does need to be decimal "correct"
Im not sure if my IRD status is correct, but I don't know how to check it. If anyone does I would really appeciate the advise.I know there is something I am doing wrong, or overlooking, but I have read every post and tutoral I could find, but still I get this problem.
I am almost ready to throw in the towel..... Please help.......save an ATmega..
Make sure your IRD software is up todate. Also not all the atmega fix that have to change the fuse byte setting. When you program your Atmega board, leavse only one pfg file in the Jeeper folder, if you have to many file in there, some time they mess up your setting like the min/max, and black out string. Try this http://forums.dsstester.com/vbb/showthread.php?t=28860 see it work for you
starsearcher 06-28-2004, 09:30 PM Thanks for the quick reply,,
As far as the IRD update, I had recieved an ECM a couple of days ago because I entered a wrong cam Id, So I went to SA 30 and erased it to force update, I'm not sure if updated everything needed, but it came up in about 30 min.
Software version is P231 CLGD-N It is a 3900, Im not sure what the most current number would be.....if this is not it...
Also in the beastlord file shoul;d I modify the fuse settings.
Thanks......

Just make sure you have just one pfg file in the jeeper folder, then write it to atmega board the way it is. You also can try this http://forums.dsstester.com/vbb/showthread.php?t=28952
Bobthetech 06-28-2004, 10:03 PM Come on Starsearcher, you can't give up. You can get this thing going. If you give up now that is like saying the Atmega board is smarter than you are. There is no doubt in my mind that you are infinately smarter than an Atmega board. You are just doing something wrong. Hang in there, I am sure Mas can help you get it working. He can do anything. I think he even delivered a baby once. As for me, I have to get to bed. Had way too many beers and I am getting goofy again.
starsearcher 06-28-2004, 11:21 PM Thanks, for the vote of confidence. "I think I can, i think I can" I hope Mas or anybody can help....
I'm off to bed soon also...... Will try again in morning.
By the way
(Im getting a error # 14 Attempting to view a channel not subscibed to.) along with all channels in red , I forgot to mention that error code before.

Just try the file in the link I posted @ the above, it had comfirmed that working with out freeze, and has PPV. and let us know how it go.
starsearcher 06-29-2004, 08:57 AM Could not get that file, open only shows 75kb downlaoded.....
Is there another posting of it that I can try to get.
Thanks

The file can be downloaded but it is freezing. Has anyone ever seen a pfg that doesn't freeze?
neo777 06-29-2004, 10:19 PM Hey MASS, do you have anything to get the ppv`s on my avr3 board, i`m geting everything but no ppv, sports or adults. I tried menthos top 180with ppv movies but still no ppvs.
Thanks

starsearcher 06-30-2004, 09:55 PM Still no channels other than previews
Regardless of what pfg. I use I get all channels other than previews in red.
I also tried a mmory dump on the ird. no luck, could it be the atmega even though it programs successfully.
Any ideas are greatly appreciated I have tried everthing.................even another ird.
Thanks

If you can programmed the Atmega with out an error, you atmega is fine. If you don't have TV, and all channels displayed in red color, it can be many things are wrong:
1. check you box key #, and IRD #
2. Make sure IRD software upto date
3. Use the min/max tier setting came with the file, don't change it unless you know what you doing, also same thing as the Black out string.
starsearcher 07-01-2004, 12:41 PM IRD Boxkeys, Cam Id, Everything checked and rechecked I have probably flashed this atmaega nearly 100 times with several jfg., with still no channels,
I have used mulitiple existing posted pfg. as well created my own, I have always left tiers in posted files alopne and loaded them in jeepers as is, with my ird, boxkeys cam id and current keys.
I am close to giving up,

The files posted here are working, but maybe with some freezing. If you don't get it to work, not the file, and you don't have problem with atmega either.
you said that your IRD had a up todate software???
Do you have another atmega to try, or same atmega borad in different IRD?
Normally when the channels displayed in red color, it mean your had an wrong nim/max tiers, or exprised.
Could you check the system information, all the informations are OK?????
starsearcher 07-01-2004, 11:42 PM Yes, Ird software is up to date. Flashed SA 30 sector a few days ago so im sure its current.
I don't have another atmega, but i do have another ird a 2700 updated to 2800 and I get the same results with it also. Also if I put my rom 10 card in I get all the subbed channels. (BASIC) on the 3900. So I know they reciever is capable of doing not making all channels inaccessable.
On files posted here, I get the same result, Makes since though, that tier min max may have something to do with it.
Any suggestions on what i might be doing wrong with my tier min max or blackout string???
Thanks for your help..........SS
With the atmega board, could you check the system information, is it all information OK? like camid #
starsearcher 07-02-2004, 10:19 AM Yes you can hit system info, and get cam id and other info all looks good.

:D well my friends it looks like its once again time to bring along some new findings into our indepth hobby which I've just stumbled across throughout trial and error. Please duly note I am fully aware how to properly program and use any atmega128 that funtions as should be and all hardware needed to do so as I have roughly ten cards that I run and maintain with no troubles what-so-ever within the dwellings of my close family and friends household drellings. I've been playing with 2 problematic atmega128's for the better part of two months. Both cards upon receiving worked for a short period of three days to no more than a week, (one being a "10PIN" and the other a "2PIN-EFA"). They have returned nothing more than the fatal "BlackScreen" no matter what script was applied to these said cards. All that I've been able to produce from these two specific atmega's were a good channel guide and open preview channels, all other channels received only the dreaded "BlackScreen". Ya I know what your thinking, If they were bad from the get go why not imediately return the items for a exchange or refund. Well after about the first month of my troubles I started questioning the answer to that one myself  . Yet on a serious note I'm the type of hobbiest that fully understands the want and need to either fix the problem yourself through your own self efficiency or burn it up trying. I tried everything under the moon to get these cards to function properly, trying every idea or resolution suggested by many of my fellow tester's. As well I troubleshooted these problem cards with my own thoughts, theories and idea's gaining no fortune on my behalf. From the time and research spent an unmentionable amount of hours researching a dozen or more sites, going through several hundred posts reading and reading and reading hoping for the answer to this dilemma which many others are experiencing Just as I. Yet only to be left hanging with no video, even after trying all of the possible sollutions to no avail. On both cards I tried all the following area's none of which worked.......
I tried multiple JPG's
I tried loading with seperate FLASH and EEPROM
I tried new fuses on card
I tried replacing 18.0000 Xtal with 18.4320 Xtal
I tried Original Junior Roba
I tried multiple differant fuse settings
I tried three seperate receivers all of differant makes
I tried verifying all files that were applied, all was OK
I tried three seperate sets of verified flashes on each of three IRD's
I tried erase...."Flash/Eeprom-20, Alternative-20 Flash/Eeprom-20"
I tried continuity test and voltage checks all was OK
-------------------------------------------------------------------------
UNTIL NOW
As stated before, Ive tried all of the above none of which resolved the issue at hand. Today I loaded a "PFG" onto one of the two bad atmega's and as funny as it is it worked perfectly. Hmmmmmm, ok so I tried that file on the second bad atmega and it also worked perfectly. I know at this point my answer was right in front of me, I just had to pin it down. So I download another "PFG" file and tried it on both troubled cards and the black screen returned on both cards with this "PFG". So I opened up both "PFG's" and began to cross reference the two individual files againt one another to see
what was so differant that one of the two said files would operate flawlessly yet the other would fail every time always resulting in me staring up at a blackscreen every time that I applied it to the card. Once I started working my way down through the two scripts I compared each segment against one another and upon finding any indifference's I would alter the "BAD PFG" file by "Copying" the complete segment from the known working script and replacing the same corresponding segment in the "BLACKSCREENING PFG FILE" by "Pasting" over the same segment. I figured by replacing the segments within a bad file one at a time with sections taken from a known working script couldnt hurt much and would most likely help narrow down the
root of my problem and where at within the script my trouble lies. After replacing each section I then proceeded to reload the card with the troubled script until my problem was resolved. HeHe i bet by now seeing that you've
made it this far reading into my long and indepth post the topic at hand is probably eating at you pretty bad. First I must say I was looking way to hard for my answer as it was right infront of all along.......................................
CONCLUSION: As I worked my way down the "PFG Files" replacing code and testing the file again after replacing each segment the answer I seeked
finally showed its face and answer to my dismay was resolved in the following section.

The problem turns out that these two particular Atmega128's "DO NOT"
Like being masked as a "Rom3". Notice this one paticular file that I got to work gave me three options for masking.
Rom11 RevB8A
Rom10 RevA23
Rom3 Rev383
When I ran this file and it started working I had accidently chosen to mask at
"Rom11 RevB8A" instead of the normal "Rom3 Rev383" which are typically found in the majority of scripts as the sole option for masking the Atmega with no alternative choices given. It turns out any and I mean any PFG I load onto these two said cards that only gives me the option to mask at
"Rom3-383" results in a blackscreen as I've tested my fair share over the past two months all being at "Rom3-383" and always received a blackscreen.
So just to verify that this was most definitely where my problem was I took six of my PFG's that were masked at "Rom3-383" all which gave me the BlackScreen and edited all six of them as I've shown above allowing me to choose a differant mask. Results are in my friends I masked all six BlackScreening PFG files with the new mask of "Rom11 RevB8A" and
with each file I tested the results were more than pleasing, all six files gave picture and worked flawlessly.
P.S. I truly do hope that I've stumbled onto somthing that will help many
others as much as its helped me as the past couple of months has
trully been an experience and I look forward to the next mountain to
climb. :D
Best regards,
digmonte

It look like your pfg file used the rom 11 form the image. Have you try to creating one with the Rom 3 image. I sure you programmed the atmega128 correctly, with the system infor like BK#. or it can be that you atmega board not update the key properly, try to edit your pfg file right the below, and see what happen

doodah 12-22-2004, 06:07 PM Your software didn't update. I'm running an atmega with a 3900 and my software is P232.
Orbitview04 12-23-2004, 07:41 PM Gentlemen,
I tried what Starsearcher had mentioned in the thread regarding the many different .pfg files about how the scripts were made concerning the types of ROM Images such as Rom3, Rom10 and Rom11 and that the ATMEGA
does NOT want to be masked particularly under Rom3 due to Black Screen Issue. Anyway, it seems to last longer after I Edited the known-bad .pfg by changing what it's called Rom Image from 3 to 11, let me clarify, by doing all of this somehow DID NOT completely take care the problem BUT the Signal did last much longer than before having the same .pfg file EDITED. As of now,
i am fighting on, never give up!! Come on, is it man or machine? :)
