View Full Version : IRD back from the dead.
Many testers have this problem, after the Tsop flash, and the IRD doesn't power up, here is something you can try.
Requirements:JKeys 2.9
For 3100 IRD
1) Plug Jtag in, then IRD
2) Open Jkey.
3) In the action menu erase Flash start location (1FC00000) (U23).
4) Unplug receiver then plug in again and restart JKey.
5) Select the U23 bin file you want on there. Start address (1FC00000), Length (1FCD5555).
6) In Action menu choose Program Flash. (It may say "Slow mode"; ignore)
7) You will eventually get an Error.
8) Close Jkey. and unplug IRD
9) Plug in IRD and the light should flash if done correctly. You have now woken up your IRD.
10) Open JKeys and erase Flash U23 full. WITHOUT unplugging the IRD, put your U23 software back on.
11) Close JKeys unplug receiver
12) Plug receiver in and start JKeys. It should read your BKeys, IRD # and the IRD light should blink again.
13) Now erase Flash U22 full. WITHOUT unplugging the IRD, put your U22 software back on.
14) Now close JKeys, unplug IRD, plug IRD back in. You should be fixed and the light on your IRD will stay ON.

For 2700/2800 IRD
If your 2700/2800 does not power up (no green light) after flashing, follow these steps:
Ground pad #1 to the chassis of IRD. Hook up JTAG, plug IRD into wall, bring up JKeys and then click on "Flash Programming". Do not click on "OK" yet, instead, unplug IRD for a few seconds, then plug it back in. Count to 3 and then click on "OK". Now try re-erasing flash and rewriting TSOP bin to IRD.

No problem  helping you just like helping myself learnning too :hat: as we both from the DTV side

How do I do that?
Ground pad #1 to the chassis of IRD
How do I do that?
Solder a wire a pad #1, then gound to the ird box.
rallen88 06-10-2004, 12:58 PM OK, I've got to bring this thread back up. My 2800 was ECM'ed and the sector erase and update thing didn't work. So, I had a saved TSOP (non-ECM'ed) to write back. I went in and did a full erase (5 times) and wrote my clean TSOP back. Plugged it in and no green light, no picture. Tried Mas' method above at least three times and still nothing.
The only thing I'm wanting to make sure of (cuz I think I'm doing it right but not absolutely sure) is about the grounding to Pad#1.
I've got the alligator clip on my Jtag which I connect to the grounding post on the bottom of the IRD for doing my Jtagging. When you say to ground Pad#1 to the IRD chassis, are you saying to connect a wire from Pad#1 to another grounding point on the chassis and that the one that is connected to the Jtag is not the one you are referring to? Just want to be clear.
Thanks!
rallen88 06-10-2004, 01:51 PM I went ahead and soldered a wire from Pad 1 to another screw post on the chassis, tried all of the above methods three times again and my 2800 is still snoozing.
On the other hand, I can run Jkeys and it shows my IRD, the newly flashed TSOP (with boxkeys and the old software version which is 766P) and everything else. All seems fine except that I cannot get the receiver to turn on.
Is there anything else to try? Blown fuses? Different plugging/unplugging? Witchcraft? Something that will keep me from buying another box.
Thanks!
rallen88
Have you get the receiver fix?
Someone PM me with the same so, I bring the post to the top again, and move the Faq forums
rallen88 09-13-2004, 08:35 AM Nope, never did. It's collecting dust on a shelf but I haven't really messed with it in a while. Sort of waiting for anything new to try with it since everything I've tried so far has failed to wake it up...

Maybe just try with the new TSOP
newbie09 09-13-2004, 04:27 PM Have you tried a junk yard fix on the 2700? Ground pads sb39 and sb40 together with the power on for about ten seconds, you will see the power pight blink several times, hook the ird up to the dish and let it sit for half an hour.
rallen88 09-13-2004, 09:12 PM I may give that a shot just to have something to fiddle with since Charlie seems to be leaving us alone otherwise...
I've tried the new TSOP idea Mas, after a certain point, it stopped even showing what software ID etc that I had on the box. I may try newbie's junkyard fix idea though...
Will keep ya posted.

The Junk Yard Fix will not fix the problem you have, You have to reflsah with the new tsop

stoped here, cant do the flash bc it wont detect the ird and ird never went to power up. untill the jkey detects it i cant flash, and until it powers i guess it wont detect either...........................
help please
newbie09 09-13-2004, 10:58 PM Oh, I didn't see that you did a full erase. You have to get the correct build config tsop and put it onto the ird. that is the only way that you are going to bring that thing back to life.

jamypac 02-21-2005, 11:21 PM After flashing tsop on 2800, no power. I had backed up the original tsop before I tinkered with it, so I tried loading the original tsop using the above procedure. No luck--still no power. Jkeys is reading from the ird though, and everything looks like it should. Don't know why it won't power on. Suggestions?

Try with another 2800 same built tsop, verify the tsop built from IRD sticker, make sure you got the correct tsop built.
jamypac 02-23-2005, 11:46 AM Re-flashed and completely disconnected jtag and ird came back on. One problem solved . . .

You have to verify the tsop build from inside the IRD itself, to make sure you get the right config build for your IRD. You can not flash ccga to your IRD because you IRD have cchd(ccha) build
Seadooer 12-01-2005, 06:06 PM Yes sir I realize that I did change the build config of the ccga file here to ccha to match my ird.Well I just got in and I tried 2nd 4700 ird and its working. So my conclusion from this is that the atmega file loaded on atmega, along with the 4900 flash for atmega did something to my 1st ird since it worked for a nite and until I got in at nite and I turned it on to a black screen and since then I havent been able to get it to work...Its stuck on aquring signal no matter what I do???

Did you change the BUILD DATA also to match your original TSOP not just the BUILD CONFIGERATION ? if not give that a try.
Seadooer 12-01-2005, 07:08 PM Yeah I did but all u need to change is the build #'s and the data changes automaticly when u hit fix crc box
bootversion 12-10-2005, 07:03 PM Hello everyone, I read about Jtag and how to get it working. My Lifetime Ultra doesnt work, power doesnt come on. Where can I get the stuff I need to make a Jtag cable? Do I ask for it by specific name? I would greatly appreciated anyone's assistance.
thank you all in advance

If the Jtag can detected IRD infor that fine, what you need is a good or Virgin TSOP and EEPROM to flash to your IRD.
bystander 07-13-2006, 07:37 PM Do we have a fix for 301.013? I erased the flash, and now that thing does not even power up.

My question is about step 8. You mentioned that you use jkeys for the program, but in step 8 you say close wall. Are you refering to the program wall? Please clarify.
Thanx

johniedoe 08-12-2006, 01:24 PM Thanx mas521ca
Got 2 2700s back up and running.
Not quite as licky with the 3100. Jkeys will not detect the type and all buttons greyed out.
Not able to access drop down menu either.
I did try to trick it by jtagging one of the 2700s and when I was able to access the menus I selected 3100 and tried but it kept giving me errors.
Well; unless you have another trick up your sleeve I guess I'll have to scrap it.
