View Full Version : Slinger and D-link 604 setup
jetta_guy 07-09-2009, 05:33 PM Ok guys I have tried to get a green light on my slinger and all I can get is a blinky orange light. I have a plain old DI-604 router with cable internet, not DSL. And I can't seem to figure out how to configure this sucker. Maybe someone could throw up a walk through for 10 year olds and maybe I could understand it. I can't beieve I used to do plastic, man that seemed easy compared to this. Thanks:cry::cry:
Project2501 07-09-2009, 05:52 PM Don't try to get it going at the moment. The server is down today, and was working so poorly the last couple days prior that it was unwatchable. Apparently not only is the slinger server suffering it's third major dDos attack, but they can't figure out how to set things up to handle the current traffic load. As soon as I get permission (IF, I guess) I have a lot more to say on this matter in the slinger review thread. Basically, not only can these guys not get their server secure from dDos attack, but they can't set things up to handle the traffic.....as if they have no clue how many slingers have been sold and will need server support.
So, to actually answer your question, as much as many here don't like the guy, mili has written a very complete how to set up the slinger and he used the exact router you are trying to use for his how-to. It will walk you through it step by step with almost no likelihood of messing anything up. It's on his forum and I'm pretty sure he's posted it here too. It's in mili's signature here I think.

Those links are for the di-615 model. The original how-to uses the 604/624 as the example. The one this guy is looking for is at

No need to log in or sign up.
jetta_guy 07-09-2009, 06:09 PM So the server is down right now? Are we going to have to start a post just like we did when the keys change? And I might actually have this thing configured right? It aquires sat signal fine and has a guide, just no audio or video. Does this mean its configured right?

The server appears to be back up now. We'll see for how long and how reliably.
Go ahead and follow those directions I linked to exactly and you should be getting reception shortly. I'll post if things go to crap again tonight so you'll know.
jetta_guy 07-09-2009, 09:02 PM Thanks 2501. I'm still not getting any audio or video. Is that a router issue?
Project2501 07-10-2009, 04:00 AM Thanks 2501. I'm still not getting any audio or video. Is that a router issue?
If your going through the acquiring signal routine and you have guide, just no audio or video, then you have a problem with your .bin. Are you trying to run private or public information? If your trying to run private, then take your private .bin, and use DCM .bin cloner to clone your information to the stock .bin provided with the slinger software. Then write the amended .bin to the slinger.
I'm assuming you have a tsop image on your box to match the .bin your trying to use.
The server seems to be working pretty good for now. I'll post if it goes to the crapper again so you know not to be wasting time trouble shooting when the issue is on their end.
jetta_guy 07-10-2009, 06:32 AM I'm using public info. I am using the .bin that came with the software. The clean b3v image. Could I have a bad or corrupt TSOP? I changed the IRD and boxkeys to public cause I dont have my plastic gear anymore.
Project2501 07-10-2009, 11:47 AM No audio or video most likely is the box keys on tsop don't match the .bin. Triple check that your tsop matches the public info. You're not going to be able to get the tsop you need here.
As an aside, I'm pretty sure we're not supposed to be discussing the northern provider on this site, so lets keep the direct referrals to that to a minimum. It's the same set up for Dish, so just say Dish and we'll both know your talking about a different "dishnet".
el bandido 07-10-2009, 12:26 PM It is OK to discuss Bev.
jetta_guy 07-10-2009, 01:06 PM but I thought if the boxkeys weren't matching I wouldn't be able to get a guide and I would get the old 019 error?
dssnosher 07-10-2009, 02:09 PM If bk's dont match you get no video/audio.
jetta_guy 07-10-2009, 04:08 PM Ok Thank you everyone, I will now gladly accept the tit of the year award. I had the boxkeys off. But I now have a new isssue. I have some channels but not everything is open. When I go to a PPV channel it wants me to order it what gives?
Mike30 07-10-2009, 04:16 PM I believe that there is no BEV PPV. And DN PPV VIP receivers only.
jetta_guy 07-10-2009, 04:49 PM All the channel lists say that pretty much all the B3v channels are open including PPV and porn. Can anyone confirm this? I don't have 525 either. Thanks
No. PPV and Porn is on Dish. On BEV no PPV only AOV porn and Playboy channel. Plus the rest of the lineup including Chinese ethnics and all HD movies, sports and Sunday Ticket when it is on.

To be precise there is no PPV. What there is, on DN, is 8-10 channels--that contain PPV content--that are intended to feed their VOD service. These channels download the most popular content to a hidden section of a subscribers disk, whether they want it or not.
Of course mili has to say PPV because not everyone will understand VOD. The slinger can only get what is available for subscription and VOD because the PVRs can't store the VOD streams without decrypting them.
