has anybody changed their receivers from a 2700a to a 9200hd????...... if so, do i need to do anything aside from just hooking up the 9200 to the satellite and downloading the new bin????

in addition, what are these 8psk adapters that are optional buys for the 9200... do they give you more channels??????

I suppose you mean that you are replacing the 2700 with a 9200HD, right?

If you are buying and installing a new 9200HD then you will need to set it up just like any other receiver by starting with the user setup settings and scan the sats. This is a user friendly receiver and a bit challenging but all new units can be until you get familiar with it, it has the PVR feature for an external HDD and uses the USB memory stick for upgrading the firmware, quite easy to do, just make sure to follow the tutorials carefully.

Make sure you get a unit that has been manufactured after February 2008 because the early productions had a problem with the PVR function that requires a modification. And if you need info about which external HDD enclosure to use, just ask because some people had problems with certain brands. I used a Western Digital 500 Gb HDD and a Vantec "NexStar-3" eSATA enclosure, model # NST-360SU-BK, the BK designates the color Black, they come in various colors, Color doesn't matter of course. This unit works very well with the Pansat 9200HD.

The 8psk tuner is for the DN HD channels, without it you won't get any HD channels from DN. I bought my receiver from eBay with the "Illuminati" 8psk tuner already installed for $410 shipped. Shop around for the best price.

It's been reported that these units run HOT with the 8psk tuner so you might want to add a fan, I installed two 40mm x 40mm x 10mm cooling fans and used a 12VDC power adaptor to run them, one fan is mounted on the CPU heatsink and the other is stuck to the circuit board (on it's side) with mounting tape facing the 8psk tuner chips, it keeps this box quite cool. Try and get the quietest fans you can find because they can be a bit noisy.

This fan modification can be a little tricky because there's not much room for fans inside the case. I installed a power jack (12VDC adaptor plug) in the vacant hole on the back of the box, this allows me to plug in the 12VDC power adaptor, it's clean looking and safer without having wires getting pinched in the case. If you want more details about installing fans, let me know and I'll post a sketch.

Good luck and have fun. :D
