View Full Version : Is Coolsat ok?
Hi all,
I bought cs6000 2 yr ago and it was working fine. Then year ago I moved to apartment where I couldnt have dish....Now I can and I consider buying another fta rec. I was thinking cs7100. Is it really worth it? I was reading coolsat forum for the last 45 min. and many of you are complaining about files, freezing etc. I realy liked how simple coolsat was. Should I switch? I don`t want spend more then $200 and I need to have 61.5 110 and 119. Any help?
Thanks
nachop 10-14-2008, 08:05 PM I had a CS5000 and a CS6000 and was very happy with both. They were very user friendly and worked exceptionally well. There is talk of support being renewed for these stbs. It remains to be seen. They are fine units, but the support was lacking so I got rid of them in favor of better supported boxes. Personally, I will not buy another Coolsat. Just know, that you take a risk with ANY brand that you purchase.
kenmoresp 10-15-2008, 12:37 AM Well, you will not find a bigger Coolsat fan than myself....I have many brands of receivers, but prefer my Coolsats...however, I would really have a hard time recommending buying one right now...too much turmoil....they really need to get their coding situation straightened out. If they could do this, in my opinion, these would be some of the best boxes on the market....and like was said in the post above, this is a risk you take with any brand...
marbleeyesjg 10-15-2008, 07:16 AM I totally agree with kenmoresp. support has been lacking with cs, would be one of the best, but a box is only as good as the support behind it. great features and easy to operate though
Thanks guys
So Pansat? Or Viewsat? Anything good and under 200 with pvr?
kenmoresp 10-17-2008, 02:13 AM Oh yeah, Check out the CNX line....seem to be really good affordable units, Sonicview has some (360 model), Viewsat pro, Captiveworks, has some, just go to those receivers sections and do some reading....but remember, there is a lot going on withe the providers right now, any purchase may be risky...

The CS-7100 is definitely a good box. But like you say....everything is risky now. With NAGRA 3 right around the corner, all FTA'ers are going to be dark for a while.

oh..man...I almost grab that one , but if you say so......I'm believing you

leiric 10-24-2008, 02:17 PM what is NAGRA 3? a card? another sat?
Nagra3 10-24-2008, 05:15 PM Nagra 3 is the latest encryption that d*sh is using.

Well, don't take my word for it....I could be wrong. Bit it is a fact that N3 is coming....and more than likely we will have some downtime until it gets broken and files are made...and from what I have been reading it will be 128 bit encryption whereas N2 is 64 bit. That means it will take a considerable more coding to get it working. This means larger files....and many of the current receivers may or may not have enough memory space to support the larger files. And the simple fact is that if the receivers can't support the files, then the receivers will not work...there is no way to know which ones will still be working at this time, got to wait until the files are actually written an tested.....so in my opinion, it would be wise to hold off making any large receiver purchase at this time....
petejf 10-29-2008, 04:35 PM Looking at it from Europe, where we've had N3 for some time, Linux receivers are the way to go.
Therefore, I suggest you wait.
