Ok I personally do not blame or bash Bush for a lot of things...but this is BS We cant keep food prices down at home, gas is through the roof, everytime you go to the store food is more expensive and those of us lucky enough to make a good income still feel it.
So those who don't I can't even imagine how they can do it.....so what is with almost 800 million being offered to other countries to help quell unrest.
Look I know there are those who will say well in the long run if we dont it will cost more....MMMM NO in this case I don't agree at all, they have dozens of children they cant feed know matter what.
They keep having more, the Gov or militias/warlords take the food or the money and use it for weapons.
In Asia the people in charge are corrupt as well, so the people who really need it don't get it anyway. And as for our standing in the world...yeah great
Our people are starving and pissed off..but don't worry about how they view their own country...worry about people who only hold a hand out and don't care about the US other than as a money tree.
This money needs to stay home and help at home...take care of your own first then others...Golden Rule
But hell know one follows rules anymore anyway

George W Bush has offered $770m (£390m) in international food aid to help ease the effects of surging food prices that have sparked riots in some countries.

The US president said he was asking Congress to approve his request.

The White House has come under intense pressure to step in as high food and petrol prices have squeezed poor families both at home and abroad.

This is a political maneouver just like Obama disavowing Rev. Wright. Expect a series of these kinds of moves before the election. It's the only legitimate hope for republicans this fall. Othewise, they'll have to fall back on their old stand by; voter fraud.

Actually the past few years the Dems are the ones with the voter fraud cry lol
And normally I would agree with you, but Bush stands to gain nothing except maybe not sinking deeper in the ratings, and with the Dems in control of both houses it really wont do the Repub's much good.
So I think this is just some move to make the US look good abroad, or to apease some people who knows.
But I hope it does Not pass and the fake money stays here.

And project congrats on passing your 2000th post...I didnt see a thread about it and just noticed you passed 2000 congrats and many more.
Ok back on topic

C&P from a news article

WASHINGTON: The "improvement in the diets of people in India and China", which is forcing the governments there to keep food "inside" is a cause for the current global supply shortage, US Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice has said.

In an interactive session at the Peace Corps 2008 Country Directors Conference, Rice said the ongoing food crisis was mainly due to "four causes", even as she specifically pointed out the exchange rate and the simple "inability" of getting food to the people.
