i'm interested in purchasing a hi-def boxe, & i've been shopping around for different makes and models. but, need your help, i currently have a dish pro 500 sat and don't know if it will be compatible with a coolsat 8100hd or other hd makes and models. any personal observations and thoughts & suggestions appreciated.

It can't and never will be able to get Dishnet HD. If you want one that can, you'll need to look at Viewsat 9000hd, Sonicview 8000hd or Pansat 9200hd. Any of these will still need a 8psk module. But these are the only FTA receives that can do it at all. Other options are learn cards and get a DN6000.
