I just purchased a 8100hd, this was bought with a duel lnb set up and 18x26 dish(oval), I have a 4 into one spliter for a sat with the lnb 1,2,3,4, and ten rev, this goes to about 150 feet of cable and has a signal amp inline as well.

My two questions are the amp has in and out , out to the rev i figure?

next is what sat to aim for? i am on gabriola island
[/B]

If some one could kindly set me up with the headings i would be greatful, i tryed the google thing and it seem confusing cause my set up seems not to werk. i am aimed at 138.5 and 32.2 up right now and no dice? and i think my signal meter is not werking.

My best advise would be to return the CS8100 if still possible and purchase a box that has some support!
This will really get you. I went to the Coolsat USA website yesterday. At the "contact us" area I emailed them asking if there was a better place to download the bins, if there was a way of opening up the files and possibly adapting one of the lower end Coolsat bins, if they saw an improvement of support in the future, or if I should buy a new box? They responded very candidly today and recommended I get an NFusion, or Viewsat! That really makes me feel good after reading their advertisements for the CS8100HD Micro PVR and the price I paid for what they claimed was the BEST of the BEST! But I think I am going to take the most recent advice!

:grr: to Coolsat!

Dual LNBs, or Twin.?? Dual LNB is a single unit that looks at ONE sat only with TWO outputs, so you'd need a pair of them for 110/119.. a TWIN is one unit that looks at both 110/119 at the same time, with an internal switch, and TWO outputs.

DUAL lnbhttp://www.sadoun.com/Sat/Products/Dishnetwork/LNBF/DishProTwin.jpg
TWIN lnbhttp://www.sadoun.com/Sat/Products/Dishnetwork/LNBF/DishPro_Twin.gif

4 into 1 splitter.?? Splitter are NEVER to be used with sat systems NEVER.!!!are you referring to a 4x1 DiseqC switch, similar to this..?? http://www.sadoun.com/Sat/Products/DiSEqC/DS41-DISEQC-SWITCH.jpg
if so, then you may or may not need one depending on what type of LNB you have.. you need to clarify in your post what equipment you specifically have..

In-line amp.?? ALSO a NO-NO.. cause more trouble then they cure... GET RID OF IT..!!! run your cable directly from the roof to your receiver with no connectors in between...

let's get your equipment sorted out first before going too far ...

now this i like as i am a compled newb here.

ok duel lnb's , and there are two so it is 4 coaxes in to a switch not a spliter, , from there it goes to a rca inline amp that i will be removing shorty, this then goes to the 8100 hd box, my duel lnbs are no name i take it and have no info on them to tell me anything imortant that could help me

I am also unsure about the software if any that i need to down load. i then played with sat finder and got it as high as i could, it seemed to not go above 50 percent, and the screed inside said the same. i am having trouble finding info on the instalation and sutch,, it would be nice to know my hardware is good and i am just an idiot? The site also mentions duel lnb setups? then this changes the info , i am unsure that two vs oneis gonna make the reading 90 dergrees out (to the east) instead of 140 to the west. I just want this thing to werk!

and on that note i guess i will wait for some more advice and again thanx to all that have commented.

Do your duals look like this...
http://www.sadoun.com/Sat/Products/Dishnetwork/LNBF/DishProTwin.jpg
or like This....
http://www.sadoun.com/Sat/Products/S/DSL2-DSS-LNBF.JPG

And is your switch like the one shown earlier, or is it something different...I suspect it is an RCA multiswitch... a rather old type, not really suited to this application.. Check out this link.. is that the switch you have.??
http://www.mcminone.com/product.asp?catalog_name=MCMProducts&product_id=58-10860

If thats your switch, then I'd suggest swapping it out for a cheap 4x1 DiseqC switch

and also what sats you really want

C'mon.. post **ALL*** the info, and we can offer some help here......

HOW MANY DISHES... Are you looking at 110 and 119 for Dishnet.. and maybe a couple of others.???

For 110 and 119, all you need is to cable from those two dishes to port 1 for 119 and port 2 for 110... then point them correctly and you'll set your receiver the same... DiseqC port 1 for 119 and 2 for 110... LNB Type is Standard, you're good to go.. you'll likely need to change TP setting to TP2 for 119, since it usually shows up as NO SigQ when you're pointing the dish...

other sats, well....set them to ports 3 and 4... and you should be good to go... Always match the actual LNB cabling and switch connection with the receiver settings....

and here goes the fun again, so i do not know what sats to aim for? i have one dish with two of the these duel lnbs, as i stated there are four wires to this switch , do i have to check my lnbs for numbers and order them accordingly? is there a point to having this set up or shoul;d i have two dishes? What should i aim my dish too with my location being basicly vancouver? i guess i just need a jump start to figure this out.

If you have no idea what sats to aim for, I'd suggest 110 and 119... that would give you basic DishNet... rather easily too... but you need to give us a bit of direction here...

I'm still assuming a lot of stuff..

Sounds like you have 2 complete dishes, with 2 LNBs.?? correct..??

and one 4x1 DiseqC switch with a bunch of cable....do you have extra connectors and a tool to crimp them with..?

All I use is a USB flash drive like came with the box. I've never hooked the cord to my box. You can download the latest file, (CS8100-11424F-2/23/08), unzip the file, rename the file _sw_code.sgn .

Then turn the power off on the back of the CS8100 box, plug the USB flash drive into the USB port on the rear of the box. Turn the power back on to the box and wait for it to cycle til you see the floating globes. On your remote, press "menu" , scroll right to "advanced", down to "USB Transfer", where you'll have to enter your password, (factory set to 0000), scroll down to "Main S/W", and "USB to STB" . On the bottom right box you should see "_sw_code.sgn : Detected. _ IF SO _ press "OK" on the remote and wait til the software transfers, could take a few minutes. If it says "_sw_code.sgn : Undetected", you need to take the flash drive back to the computer and go through the rename process again. Sometimes "WINDOWS" automatically adds the suffix ".sgn " to the file name ( why, I don't understand) and it will actually be "_sw_code.sgn.sgn " as a result, which the box won't recognize. You then have to rename the file just "_sw_code" , WINDOWS automatically adds the ".sgn" . Now you're ready to go through the process described to load the flash drive back in the box. Assuming that you already have your box set up and have scanned the appropriate sats , you'll have TV.

WELL MAYBE NOT! IT APPEARS THAT WE'VE BEEN HIT WITH ANOTHER ECM, JUST IN THE LAST HOUR OR SO! YOU'LL HAVE TO WAIT FOR THE NEXT NEW FILE TO COME OUT TO WATCH TV, BUT YOU CAN STILL PRACTICE ENTERING THE FIX AS DESCRIBED ABOVE SO YOU'LL BE READY WHEN THE FIX COMES OUT.

hope this helps!
