Hard Drive is a Samsung 60GB.

Tried formating using usb cable on WinXP and only option is NTFS. Formatted w/ NTFS and still doesn't work.

Tried formatting connected to Windows98 and my win98 will not detect the storage device, tried downloading drivers for samsung and storage devices but could not get it to recognize.

Solution: I can remove the HD from the case and install it in a laptop and format for sure with what I want but before I do that I want to make sure that I wont be doing that for nothing.

Some information I got from websites and forums said it should be formatted with FAT or FAT32 preferrably.

Unit will recognize HD but will not format. Cannot Upload updates, record, or anything that has to access HD. Message saying "need to format HD." Everytime I tried before doing anything to it still didn't work, connected to Antennas still didn't work. PANSAT is willing to replace it but don't want to do that yet it will take weeks to months to get it back. I searched as many sites, googled for Pansat 6000 HD.

Appreciate any help or any advice
Thank you

Well to start off with most all hard drives are formatted fat. The sd cards that are used to transfer data are fat formatted. So if were mine I would pull drive and format with computer. When you hook it to another computer which can have XP on it and go to adm. tools it will tell you what it is presently formatted at. Then you can reformat it back the same and clean.

Brand new Pansat 6000 with new usb cables and 60 GB Samsung HD.

Dell Inspiron 700m Laptop

Dell pc with win98

On laptop when connected I can see the drive in XP. When connected to win98 sys, it finds the device but know drivers.

On XP I can go to "computer management" and format drive but I do not get the option for FAT or FAT32.
I've tried in command prompt and it starts to format but it says HD is to big to be formated using fat32. (Something to do with clusters.)
USB cables are obviusly fine because HD is able to be formatted and actually recognized.

MY proposed Theory or solution:
Is I can one of my old laptops running win98 and take that hd out and format the Samsung HD to FAT32. TO MUCH WORK. I'm not doing that. :o

Go out and buy a laptop to pc conversion cable or device and plug into my old desktop running win98 and format to FAT32. BETTER SOLUTION, but I'm cheap and before I spend $15-$20 on this thing. <_<

PANSAT customer service are willing to take system back and send me NEW one but that will take months they said.

There is know reason why I shouldn't be able to format this device when I have another external storage device formatted at FAT32 using XP. :fear:

Thanks for all the advice

Sending system to Pantec or Pansat for repair or replacement. Tried everything you can think of. :wow:

Well if you ever have your HD go bad on you on this device. Rest assured you will be able to get it fixed. However, be prepared to wait about a month to get it back. I was hoping for a replacement so I marked the receiver underneath. :o To my surprise they did replace it. If you have any questions or problems similar to this feel free to PM me.
