Hi sailor777girl, First let me say 'welcome to the site'! You do know sat wont work on a boat though? lol, j/k. Just a couple questions ... what instructions are you following? And are you using the cable that came with the box? It should be a null modem cable.. Its a good idea to read the instructions a couple times to make sure everything is followed to the 't' . Post back and someone will try and help. Alot of good people here for that reason.

yes it has to be null modem cable not straight thru serial. i had same problem. get a null modem cable. download the april13 A17bar file. using the null modem open up the sw loader from fortec website. open up the april13 A17bar bin. turn on stb and it should download. the only problem i having now is getting the guide to download.

Thanks for the warm welcome. Ok first off neither of my receivers came with the Null Cord. But I had one I was using with the Fortec Lifetime Ultra for downloading the 9pin female to female right? I used the instructions from this website under the SW loader. But I have two receivers and I know one I did a factory reset to and had backed up the channels first. Maybe could it be possible that I am trying to download to the one I havent factory reset. And thats the other thing, the factory reset ,is that supposed to be done before or after the download. Or does that not matter. And what is it meant by not a straight thru serial port(confused on that). Thanks for any help. sailor777girl. Ps. Not on a ship(Not called a boat) LOL Im in the comforts of my own home right now.

if the cable worked on the FLU it is a straight through cable. Cable that works on the FLU won't work on the MII
Some may have preference on factory reset procedures, but if I'm going to do one I do it after installing a new bin. Probably just a coolsat habit.

the 11/07/07 bin available here:
h??p://www.al7bar-soft1.com/
will get your EPG to fill
It's likely the same number as the bin you have because the last two bins had the same number.

Ok. Looking at the cables how do I know which one I need there are several null cables. I think its this one but not sure -Cable, Null Modem, DB9 F/F. Also I know on the Fortec Ultra's you didnt need to be connected to the TV to download do I need to be for the Merc II. I know silly question but this system is different from the Fortec Ultra. sailor777girl

Ok. After doing some research I figured out that the cable I needed in last post was correct so that is ordered. But the other question I still need answered about needing to be hooked up to tv and pc to download. Thank you sailor777girl.

you can load the file at your pc then go and connect to your tv if you want. Just make sure the file is completely loaded before you switch off and unplug.

Mercury 2 uses a null modem serial cable meaning , the wire connected to pin 2 and 3 are flipped and the wire on pin 5 goes straight.
The fortec ultra uses a straight cable the wires on pin 2,3 and 5 goes to the same pin number on the other side.
When you load the bin in the uploader program use the remote to power off and on the box .
Hello everyone,
I have a fortec mercury 2 receiver also and I can't figure out a way to use the new DN ID 0106. Many channels are not working and autoroll is not working also.
Anyone knows if there is a new BIN file that works?, and where it will be posted?.
Thanks for your help.
